Sea of Devotees throng to pay their Last Respects to Pejwar Swamiji

Udupi: A large number of leaders and devotees thronged to Udupi to pay their last respects to Sri Vishvesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar math who passed away on Sunday, December 29 morning.

Leaders cutting across party lines, various religious leaders paid their final homage to the late spiritual preacher of the Peajwar Math. The district administration made special arrangements at the Mahatma Gandhi District stadium Ajjarkad, Udupi to pay the final homage for the people of Udupi.

A guard of honour with a 21-gun salute will be accorded to the seer before his body is interned as per the Math’s tradition in the presence of CM Yediyurappa and other dignitaries.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, State minister C T Ravi, MP’s Shobha Karandlaje, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA’s Raghupathi Bhat, Lalaji R Mendon, Sukumar Shetty, Sunil Kumar, Halady Srinivas Shetty, Harish Ponja, Vedavyas Kamath, MLC Ivan D’Souza, former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Pramod Madhwaraj, DC Jagadeesh, SP Nisha James and other paid their last respect to Pejawar Swamiji.

On behalf of Udupi Diocese Dr Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi Diocese paid his last respects to Sri Vishvesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar math.

Thousands of people, including hundreds of his devotees and followers paid homage to the seer’s mortal remains, which were kept for public viewing at the M.G. Stadium in the town till 1:00 p.m. before it was flown to Bengaluru in a military chopper for the last rite at his Math in the city’s southern suburb with state honours.

At Bengaluru, the pontiff’s cortege will be kept for public homage at the National College grounds in south Bengaluru before taking it to Poornaprajna Vidyapeeth for the last rites later in the evening as per his wishes,” the official said.
