Section 144 in force from Nov 9 to 12, No holiday on Tipu Jayanti

Mangaluru: “According to the orders of the government, on November 10, Tipu Jayanti will be celebrated at the Netravati Hall, Zilla Panchayat premises at 10:00 am which will be a one-hour programme. For the smooth functioning of the programme, we have taken all the measures.  To ensure the safety of the people of the district we have imposed section 144 from 9 November 6:00 am to 12 November 6:00 pm. The section 144 will not affect the normal life of the people. They can organize birthday parties, wedding or other family functions but there is no permission to hold Jathas, processions, public meetings or gatherings”, said the deputy commissioner Dr Jagadeesha in a press meet held at the Netravati Hall, Zilla Panchayat here on November 8.

Addressing the mediapersons the DC said, “We have invited leaders from all organizations and based on their suggestions we have taken measures. We have invited the guests according to the protocol. Last year during the celebrations some unfortunate incidents had occurred in the district. Understanding the sensitivity of the area we have taken all necessary safety measures. We have taken bonding from people suspected of creating problems in the society. Normal life will not be affected but according to the order no political meetings or programmes will be allowed”.
Under the section 144 CrPC, assembly of five or more persons, holding of public meetings, carrying of firearms or weapons and posting inciting pictures will be prohibited. On November 10, schools and colleges will function as usual and we will ensure full safety to the parents and the students.
Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar, SP Bhushan Borase, ADC Kumar and others were also present.
