Chikkamagaluru: The selfie craze has been resulting in more and more deaths at dangerous spots. Five persons from Chitradurga had visited Mangaluru, Dharmasthala and Subrahmanya in Dakshina Kannada on Saturday and were on their way back. In transit, they stopped over at Alekan falls on the road to Charmadi ghat.

In their eagerness to click selfies in front of the falls, Nagabhushan (28) reportedly lost his physical balance and fell into the water. Hanumantappa (34) jumped in to save him. Both got dragged away by the force of water.

The police from Banakal station and the fire brigade, assisted by a local social worker, Monu, conducted a search operation and fished out the bodies.

A case has been registered at the Banakal police station.
