Seven arrested in Hiriyadka Kidnap and Dacoity case

Seven arrested in Hiriyadka Kidnap and Dacoity case

Udupi: “The District Police have arrested 7 persons in connection with the dacoity case in Hiriyadka and recovered 876 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 24 lakh from their possession”, said the District Superintendent of Police K T Balakrishna in a press meet here on March 23.

The arrested have been identified as Harikrishna Bhat (25) proprietor of Gayathri Jewelers, resident of Perdoor; Mohammed Irfan (30) from Hemmady, Javed (25) from Kola, Ashraf (34) from Belapu, Ilahid (24) from Hemmady, Ravichandra (41) from Kundapur and Sumanth Kumar (24) from Kirimanjeshwar.

The prime accused Harikrishna Bhat proprietor of Gayathri Jewelers was dealing with Dilip who was the distributor of gold ornaments supplied from Thrissur, Kerala. Harikrishna was aware of Dilip’s business of distributing gold ornaments in Moodbidri and Udupi. Dilip used to carry the gold ornaments in his jacket and also keep the collected cash in it. Harikrishna shared the information with the second accused and planned to kidnap Dilip and loot him.

On March 17, when Dilip was travelling from Moodbidri to Udupi, in downtown Udupi, according to the plan, Harikrishna acted as a police, stopped the bus pulled out Dilip from it and pushed him into a car and was taken to Nandikur where he was looted of the gold ornaments and cash. Dilip was then pushed out of the car at Nandikur and the gang sped away.

The investigation was initiated under the direction of ASP Vishnuvardhan, Udupi DySP Kumarswamy, DCIB Inspector Sampath Kumar, CPI Bramhavar Srikanth, Kaup CPI VS Halamurthy, PSI Hiriyadka Vinayak Billava, PSI Padubidri Satish, ASI Kaup Sridhar Nambiar, ASI DCIB Rosario Dsouza, Staff Ravichandra, Chandra Shetty, Ramu Hegde, Santosh Kunder, Suresh K., Raghavendra Uppunda, Praveen, Shivanand, Rajkumar Byndoor,m Dayananda Prabhu, Driver Raghavendra, RDC department Shivanand Shetty and Srinithin.

Western Range Inspector General Harishekaran appreciated the the job done in nabbing the culprits and has announced a reward for the team.
