Seven, Including Engineering Student Arrested in Mangaluru Ganja Sale Crackdown

Mangaluru: In a concerted effort to combat the illegal sale of narcotics, particularly ganja, the Mangaluru police have arrested seven individuals across various locations within the city police commissionerate. The arrests, part of the ongoing Madak Dravya Mukta Mangaluru Abhiyan (Drug-Free Mangaluru Campaign), include an engineering student from Kerala, highlighting the pervasive nature of the illicit trade.

The Bunder police apprehended Abdul Samad, also known as Chammu, on August 8th in the Kudroli Kandathpalli area. Samad is accused of selling ganja to college students and the general public. Authorities seized 1.40 kg of ganja from his possession.

Acting on intelligence regarding the sale of ganja to college students and laborers, the Mulki police raided the Kolnadu Lingapayyana Kadu area under their jurisdiction. Dharmalingam, a resident of Karnadu village, was arrested, and 1.90 kg of ganja was confiscated.

In a separate operation, Dolat Kumar Sharma and Muhammad Khushalam, both natives of Bihar, were taken into custody near Maravoor within the Bajpe police station limits. They are accused of selling ganja to the public, and police seized 1.189 kg of the substance.

The Kankanady police arrested Karthik and Moth near Padil while they were allegedly attempting to sell ganja. Authorities seized 800 grams of ganja, and a formal case has been registered against the pair.

Pranav K., an engineering student from Kerala studying within the Kadri police station limits, was also arrested. Police acted on information that he was selling ganja to college students and the public. A total of 1.100 kg of ganja was seized.

Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy stated that the investigation is ongoing and that authorities are actively gathering further information regarding individuals involved in the continuous sale of illegal narcotics, specifically ganja, to college students, youth, and the general public within the city. He further noted that details of individuals who purchased ganja from the arrested suspects are available. Teams have been formed in each station to trace these individuals, and a search is actively underway.

The recent arrests underscore the Mangaluru police’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and ensuring a drug-free environment for the city’s residents, particularly its student population. The Drug-Free Mangaluru Campaign will continue with increased vigilance and proactive measures to curb the supply and demand of illegal substances.
