Udupi: Man Arrested for Alleged Sexual Harassment at Kaup Wellness Center
Kaup: Niranjan Shekhar Shetty, 52, has been apprehended by police following allegations of sexual harassment perpetrated against a woman at the Sunanda Wellness Center in Moolur village, Kaup taluk. The arrest was made in connection with an incident that reportedly occurred during a counseling session at the aforementioned center, situated in the Kankanguttu compound.

The arrest was executed by the Kaup Police Station, under the direction of PSI Shubhakar, along with the investigative team. The operation was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Harsha Priyamvada IPS, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Karkala Sub-Division, and Azmat Ali, Circle Inspector, Kaup Circle.
According to the formal complaint filed by the victim, she sought counseling services at the wellness center to address marital difficulties. During a counseling session with Niranjan Shekhar Shetty, the counselor allegedly engaged in unsolicited physical contact, which the victim has characterized as sexual harassment, perpetrated under the guise of professional counseling.
Upon receiving the written complaint at the Kapu Police Station, authorities registered a case under Crime No. 151/2025, invoking Sections 74, 75(1), 75(2), and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An immediate investigation was launched, culminating in the arrest of the accused.
Niranjan Shekhar Shetty is currently in police custody and is slated to be presented before the court.
The police operation involved the participation of several officers, including PSI Shubhakar (Investigation), HC 28 Narayan, PC 2494 Raghu, HC 1166 Vikram (investigation assistant), and PC 2687 Swami D.S. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the investigation into the matter remains active and ongoing.
