She Came, She Saw, She Conquered Hearts of Citizens! Mayor Kavita Says ‘Adieu’ & Thanks Kudla

Mangaluru: A day before her last day in the Office as Outgoing Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation Kavita Sanil on Wednesday, March 7 addressing the media persons during a meeting thanked the citizens of Mangaluru for supporting her during her tenure and also pointed out the development works that were initiated under her administration. Overwhelmed with the tremendous support, encouragement and love received from the citizens and her colleagues Mayor Kavita said, “On the outset, I take this last opportunity as a mayor to thank you immensely, all citizens of Mangaluru. My sincere thanks also to my Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh, former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde, all the corporators and chairpersons of various committees for their valuable suggestions, support and encouragement in all the duties that I performed. You were all a great source of inspiration and support to me”.

“It was only because of the trust and confidence that the citizens of Mangaluru had on me that I was able to continue with my work and undertake various developmental projects, which nearly 98% have been completed in time. It was due to the blessings and encouragement towards me by the citizens and my colleagues that I successfully completed my tenure. I assure you that even though I end my Mayorship, I will still take active participation in any MCC development work if they need me, and simultaneously involve myself in various social service activities- and also fight for the rights of the citizens,” added Mayor Kavita.

She further said, “When I took over the Mayor post, I assured you all that I will rectify the water crisis faced by Mangaluru and DK. And here when I am ending my tenure as mayor, I can proudly say that I succeeded in enabling storage of 6 meters of water in the Thumbe dam, which will be enough to meet the City’s water demands. I also took up nearly Rs 180 crore worth of development works during my tenure- to name a few, like the installation of e-toilets, new signboards, gardens in major places, hawking space for vendors, new roads which were badly needed in many places, among many other projects. I even reduced the rent of Town Hall for the benefit of the artists and musicians.”

“I also feel proud to say that I was instrumental in instituting the Srinivas Mallya Award; the Birth of MCC Day celebration; a new entrance at the Nehru Maidan, which is in its last stages of completion; and my dream project in constructing the Clocktower near Town Hall. Even though I received and faced criticism from all quarters for my action on raiding illegal massage parlours and skill game centres, but I did it with courage and I feel proud of it. My intention was to prevent youngsters from getting into all these illegal activities. I had the full support of the parents when I carried on my raids.”

“Many citizens have benefited from the phone-in programme, where most of their grievances were rectified, and some of them will be solved soon. I am also lucky to be part of the inauguration of the Indira canteens which were launched under my tenure. I think I have fulfilled my duties, completed various developmental projects, satisfied the needs of the citizens. Once again a big thank you to all of you for trusting me, having faith in me, and allowing me to continue with my work to the best of my abilities. I will be still around and will be still active in MCC,” added Mayor.

The Mayor was greeted with a bunch of floral bouquets from her colleagues and well-wishers. Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh, Former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde, and corporator Sabitha Misquith were beside her on the dais.
