Los Angeles, March 30 (IANS) Singer Lionel Richie’s daughter Sofia Richie has been advised by her sister Nicole Richie to stay clear of drugs.

Sofia, who is Lionel’s daughter with his second wife Diane Alexander, shares a very close bond with Nicole, who was adopted by the singer and his first spouse Brenda, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Nicole has been very open with her sibling about her own struggles with heroin use and has warned Sofia to never give in to peer pressure and be tempted to experiment with illegal substances.

“People look at me thinking, ‘Oh, you are probably going to go through the same thing.’ (Nicole) says, ‘Don’t let people pressure you to do what they think is cool, like taking drugs. Be true to yourself’,” Sofia told ES Magazine.

When Sofia was growing up, Nicole would always take her out and let her younger sister do things their father wouldn’t let her.

“Nicole was crazy and fun. She would take me to places I wasn’t supposed to go to, like fairs, and she would let me have foods that I wasn’t allowed to eat, like cotton candy,” she added.

Why Theron, Penn’s bond ‘didn’t work anymore’

Actress Charlize Theron, who seperated from actor Sean Penn last summer, says she doesn’t understand why their relationship was sensationalised. She says the duo parted ways only because things “didn’t work” for them anymore.

After Theron and Penn split, the virtual went into a tizzy with a rumour that she had been “ghosting” him before they broke up. However, Theron has opened up about what really happened between them.

“There is a need to sensationalise things. When you leave a relationship there has to be some f*****g crazy story or some crazy drama. And the f*****g ghosting thing, like literally, I still don’t even know what it is. It’s just its own beast,” Theron told WSJ magazine, reports eonline.com.

“We were in a relationship and then it didn’t work anymore. And we both decided to separate. That’s it,” she added.

Further explaining about their split, she said: “We were very, very new in a relationship. The stories that Sean was going to adopt Jackson, and all of that was not true. It’s not something that happens in 18 months. You can’t do that to a child.”

Wentworth Miller battled suicidal depression

Actor Wentworth Miller, protagonist of American TV series “Prison Break”, says he battled with suicidal depression.

The 43-year-old shared on his Facebook account that he was once suicidal and addressed a meme highlighting his past weight gain, reports people.com.

“Today I found myself the subject of an internet meme. Not for the first time. This one, however, stands out from the rest. In 2010, semi-retired from acting, I was keeping a low-profile for a number of reasons. First and foremost, I was suicidal,” Miller posted.

“I was looking everywhere for relief, comfort, distraction. And I turned to food. It could have been anything, drugs, alcohol, sex. But eating became the one thing I could look forward to. Count on to get me through. And I put on weight. Big deal,” he added.

The actor also said he was “ashamed and in pain” at the time, and suffered in silence, adding that he even contemplated suicide.

“Now, when I see that image of me in my red t-shirt, a rare smile on my face, I am reminded of my struggle. My endurance and my perseverance in the face of all kinds of demons. Some within. Some without. Like a dandelion up through the pavement, I persist,” he added.

‘Deadpool’ named world’s highest-grossing R-rated movie ever

Actor Ryan Reynolds’s superhero film “Deadpool”, which released in India last month, has officially raked in more than $745 million worldwide, passing 2003 film “The Matrix Reloaded” ($742.1 million) to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie in box office history.

Directed by Tim Miller, the film tells the story of Wade Wilson (Reynolds), who hunts the man who gave him an accelerated healing factor and also a scarred physical appearance.

In North America, “Deadpool” has a total of $349.4 million, and it is expected to surpass “American Sniper” ($350.1 million) to take second place on the domestic list of highest-grossing R-rated movies, reports ew.com.

“The Passion of the Christ” still stands as number one position with a collection of $370.8 million from domestic ticket sales.

Back in February, “Deadpool” shattered expectations, opening to $132.4 million over three days and $152.2 million over the four-day Presidents’ Day weekend.

Not only did that earn the film the biggest R-rated opening of all time, becoming the first R movie to pass $100 million in its opening weekend, but “Deadpool” had the biggest February opening in box office history.

An R-rating, implying restricted viewership, according to Motion Picture Association of America film rating system, is accorded to movies which can be watched by those under 17 only when accompanied by parent or adult guardian.

Oscar-winning actress Patty Duke dies

US actress Patty Duke, winner of an Oscar in 1963 and star of a TV show that bore her name, died on Tuesday at a hospital near her home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, her agent said. She was 69.

Mitchell Stubbs said on Twitter that the actress died from intestinal septicemia.

Anna Marie Duke, born in New York City in 1946, began acting at the age of seven under the guidance of husband-and-wife management team John and Ethel Ross, who changed her name to Patty.

At the age of 16, Duke won an Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in the movie “The Miracle Worker” to become the youngest actress at the time ever to be honoured with that prize.

She had previously acted on Broadway in the theatre version of that work, playing the same blind, deaf and dumb teenager.

Starting in 1963 she starred in her like-named television programme, which was cancelled after three seasons.

Among the honours she won were two Golden Globes and three Emmy Awards. Since 2004 her name has been immortalised on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

A singer and author as well as an actress, Patty Duke, who suffered from bipolar personality disorder, was married four times.

She is survived by husband Michael Pierce and son Sean Astin, whose father was her third spouse, actor John Astin.

Writing my memoir was therapeutic: Tommy Hilfiger

Ace designer Tommy Hilfiger found it “therapeutic” to pen his memoir.

The 65-year-old, who launched his self-titled fashion house in 1985, found it “interesting” to reflect on his over 30-year career in the fashion industry as he penned “American Dreamer”, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

“‘American Dreamer’ is a reflection on my experiences in the fashion industry from the last 30-plus years. It has been incredible to look back on the moments that have defined both my career and my personal life from my childhood and origins in the fashion world to my enduring passion for pop culture and America.

“It’s been months and months of writing. It’s like therapy,” Hilfiger told fashion industry trade magazine WWD.com.

The book documents Hilfiger’s beginnings in Elmira, New York, in a family of nine children to his first foray into the fashion business with his store The People’s Place, bankruptcy at 25 and the creation of his multi-billion dollar brand.

In the book, Hilfiger also discusses his life with his former wife Susie with whom he has four children, Alexandria, 31, Elizabeth, 23, Kathleen, 20, and Ricky, 26 and current spouse Dee and their young son Sebastian.

Releasing in November, “American Dreamer” has been written in collaboration with Peter Knobler.
