Singapore varsity website hacked, restored after a day

Singapore, March 10 (IANS) The website of Curtin University’s Singapore campus came under attack from hackers claiming to have allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) and had to be taken offlline for a day before it was restored, a media report said Tuesday.

“Curtin University became aware on Sunday that its Curtin Singapore website was defaced and immediately disabled the website,” said Ian Callahan, corporate services vice president at the university, in response to media queries, Channel NewsAsia reported.

The hacked website displayed a smiley emoticon with the message: “Hacked by Islamic State (ISIS) — we are everywhere.”

The radical group’s flag was also displayed.

“The security breach was resolved and the website was back online by mid-afternoon” on Monday, the university said in the statement.

Police have been informed of the incident.
