South Korea striker Son signs new deal with Tottenham

London: South Korean striker Son Heung-Min has signed a new contract with north London club Tottenham Hotspur, which will keep him in the English Premier League side until 2023.

The 26-year-old Son, who led South Korea to a 2-0 victory over Germany in Russia World Cup, told Tottenham’s official website: “It feels great. I’ve learned so many things in the last three years and we’re all looking forward.”

“We deserve to win something and deserve to make some history. It’s time to do it and to believe in ourselves. I’m always positive with the lads and looking forward to playing again in the Premier League and the Champions League,” added Son.

Son joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, and has scored 47 goals in 140 appearances for the north London side, reports Xinhua news agency.

He scored twice during the Russia World Cup, including one in South Korea’s shock win over Germany.

Son was especially thankful for the fans, saying, “Without the fans, I’m a very small player. They support me home and away, it doesn’t matter where I am, when I play for South Korea in the World Cup they support me.

“I want to give that back on and off the pitch. When I see the fans, I’m really happy, when they see me and I see the kids and they are smiling, I’m smiling as well. I know how this feels.

“The fans are amazing and I hope next season, with the new stadium, the fans will be amazing again. I’m so excited to play there, to get three points and celebrate together with the fans.

“I hope we always have positive results and good energy with the fans together.”
