Sri Lankan Athletes to take part in the Junior Athletic Meet in City 12-13 Dec

Sri Lankan Athletes to take part in the DK, Udupi & Sri Lanka Junior Athletic Meet to be held at Mangala Stadium-Mangaluru on 12 and 13 December 2017, where over 1500 participants are expected to take part.

Mangaluru: For the FIRST time in the history of Mangaluru sports Event, that nearly 75 athletes from Sri Lanka will take part in DK, Udupi & Sri Lanka Junior Athletic Meet to be held at Mangala Stadium-Mangaluru on 12 and 13 December 2017, where over 1500 participants are expected to take part, said Krishna Shennai – Treasurer of Dakshina Kannada Athletics Association-Mangaluru during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club.

Shennai further said, ” We have already received over 1500 registrations for the sports meet, including Sri Lanka athletes. There will be four categories in boys and girls under 14, q6, 18 and 20 years. Nearly 250 athletes from Udupi will also take part in the event. Apart from sports activities, there will also be a contest to judge the best school band, who will perform during the sports meet” added Shennai.

The inauguration ceremony on 12 December at 9.15 am at the Mangala stadium, will be done by Minister Ramanath Rai, along with guests of honor namely- MP Nalin Kumar Kateel; MCC Mayor Kavitha Sanil; Former state Minister Krishna J Palemar; Chandrashekar Rai- Secretary-Karnataka Athletics Association; Uday K Prabhu- Former International Athlete; Dinesh Puthran-President, Udupi Dist Athletics Assn.; and D A Yasarohana De Silva- Secretary, Ceylonese Track & field Club-Sri Lanka.

The valedictory function will be held on 13 December at 4.15 pm-where N Vinay Hegde- Chairman-Nitte University will be the chief guest, along with other guests namely- Minister Pramodh Madhvaraj; Ex-minister Abhyavchandra Jain; MLA J R Lobo; DC of DK Sasikanth Senthil; and Pradeep D’souza- deputy director, Directorate Youth Empowerment & Sports.

Steevan M D’sa- Vice-president; Anil Alva- Organizing secretary and Sunil Kumar Shetty-Advisor of DKAA were also present during the press meet. Citizens are requested to come in large numbers, and also help the DKAA in bringing Young Talents in the field of Athletics.
