St Aloysius University Hosts International Workshop on Literary Writing
Mangaluru: An international one-day workshop titled ‘Literary Writing’ (Sahityik Likni) was jointly organised by the Mangalore University Konkani Chair and St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) at the university auditorium.
Ln. Dr Austin D’Souza Prabhu from Illinois was the chief guest. He shared his thoughts and experiences on literary writing and the magazine Veez.
Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, S.J., Vice-Chancellor of St Aloysius University, emphasised the vibrant presence of the Konkani language and culture on campus. He also highlighted the significance of Konkani Manyatha Diwas.
Rev. Fr Brian Pereira, S.J., Rector of St Aloysius Educational Institutions, launched the Ashawadi Prakashan website and spoke about the Jesuits’ contributions to the Konkani language.
Rev. Fr Prashant Madtha, Director of the Konkani Institute, and Shanan Pinto and Aaron Pinto, Secretaries of the Konkani Association, were present on the dais.
Dr Preeti Keerthi D’Souza, Coordinator of the Mangalore University Konkani Chair, welcomed the gathering, while Flora Castelino, Head of the Department of Konkani, delivered the vote of thanks.
A symposium on the late Konkani writer and poet Mic Max was also held, featuring Juliet Moras and Hemacharya. Songs written by Mic Max in various regions were presented under the musical direction of Sanjay Rodrigues.
The Konkani film Nachuia Kumpasar was also screened on the occasion.
