State-of-the-Art Rs 15 Cr ‘Da Vinci 4th Generation Robot Assisted Surgical System’ at A J Hospital Soon

T Help the Surgeon to do the surgery with more Precision, State-of-the-Art Rs 15 Cr ‘Da Vinci 4th Generation Robot Assisted Surgical System’ to be installed at A J Hospital in beginning of 2020.

Mangaluru: Ever since its inception in 2001, A.J. Hospital & Research Centre has been upgrading the facilities to meet its objective of providing world class healthcare facilities in Mangaluru. It was the dream of Dr. A. J. Shetty to make the best of healthcare facilities available in the coastal region of Karnataka. A.J. Hospital & Research Centre has always been in the forefront providing the BEST of HEALTH CARE that matches the BEST in the COUNTRY. It has many firsts to its credit in the field of patient care and latest equipment. A J Hospital will be introducing “Da Vinci Fourth Generation Robot Assisted Surgical System”, which is only 4th in India- and it will be installed at the hospital in the beginning of 2020.

Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Dr Pritam Sharma- Consultant Urologist at A J Hospital & Resurgical systemsearch Cente said, ” The Da Vinci 4th Generation Robot Assisted Surgical System will help the surgeon improve quality of surgery by magnification, which helps conduct the surgery with precision and improves surgical outcome significantly. If someone asks, Does the Robot replace the surgeon? No. It only helps the surgeon to do the surgery with more precision” .

Dr Sharma further said, “Benefits of Da Vinci 4th Generation Robot Assisted Surgical System are- Shorter hospitalization; Reduced pain and discomfort; Faster recovery time and return to normal activities; Smaller incisions resulting in reduced risk of infection; Reduced blood loss and transfusions; Minimal scarring; More precision in surgery resulting in better surgical outcomes to the patient. It is advanced to Laparoscopic surgery. It can be used in Urology, Gynaecology, Surgical Gastroenerology, Bariatric surgery, Oncology surgery and General surgery.

Also speaking to Team Mangalorean, Nizam, the representative of Intuitive Surgical Inc said, “The earlier version of Da Vinci Surgical Systems have been installed at 70 different hospitals across India. But the Fourth Generation of Da Vinci Robot Surgical Systems have been installed at three other hospitals in India, and A J Hospital will be the Fourth in the Country to have this State-of-the-Art Robot system, for a better precision. Fourth generation da Vinci Surgical Systems continue to advance Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) across a wide spectrum of surgical procedures. Flexible configurations, up-gradable architecture and a consistent interface distinguish our family of da Vinci systems. The System is versatile and flexible, with setup automation and guidance that promotes OR efficiency. It provides multi-quadrant access and is used for a variety of complex procedures. With the da Vinci SP, a single arm delivers three multi-jointed instruments and a fully wristed 3DHD camera for visibility and control in narrow surgical spaces”.

“Intuitive Surgical Inc.based in USA and the only one Company in the World had received FDA approval for the da Vinci Xi Surgical System with Table Motion in January 2016. The da Vinci Xi Surgical System with Table Motion, is the company’s fourth generation, robotic-assisted surgical platform. The core technology included in all da Vinci platforms includes a surgeon’s console, a patient-side cart, a vision system, and proprietary instruments. The da Vinci Xi Surgical System added features include: modification to the overhead architecture/patient-side cart with a boom mount so that multi-quadrant surgery can be performed without extensive re-positioning, a laser targeting system to improve the ease of robotic arm set up, thinner arms/instruments with longer reach, and a movable endoscope which can be positioned on any of the four robotic arms. The da Vinci Xi also includes improved 3D HD vision, integrated “Firefly” fluorescence imaging, and an integrated energy source (monopolar/bipolar/tissue sealing)”.

“Integrated Table Motion combines da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical System and Trumpf Medical’s TruSystem® 7000dV OR Table so that a patient can be dynamically positioned while the surgeon operates. Integrated Table Motion allows the surgical team to reposition the patient by adjusting the operating table without undocking from the Xi surgical system. The FDA determined the da Vinci Xi Surgical System is equivalent to predicate devices. FDA approved indications for use: General Laparoscopic Surgical Procedures; Laparoscopic Urologic Surgical procedures; and Laparoscopic Gynecologic Surgical Procedures” added Nizam.

Dr Ashwin Alva and Dr Rohan Shetty, both Surgical Gastroenterologists at A J Hospital & Research Centre were also present during the briefing of this Robot system.
