According to the police some locals found the idols in a bag on the river bank and immediately alerted the Ajekar Police. The Police immediately reached the spot and recovered the idols. Police suspect that some thieves might have stolen the idols and left them on the river bank. Another idol of Padmavathi and other jewellery items are still missing.

On February 21  idols of antique value and other jewellery and ornaments were stolen from Anantaswamy Basadi in Shirlalu village. Thieves had entered the Anantaswamy Basadi at Shirlalu village by breaking open the door and the grills on the eastern side in the early hours of Sunday February 21. They took away four Panchaloha idols, 30 grams of gold ornaments meant for the idols and some silver articles kept in the sanctum sanctorum of the Basadi. The stolen idols are about 150 years old.
