Teacher’s Elopement with Student – NRI Husband Gets Divorce

Kundapur: A bizarre case of a married woman having eloped with an underage student of hers has ended with her husband being granted a divorce by a court here.

The woman, a teacher, had married an NRI from Dubai. The wedding had taken place in a grand manner in Hotel Sharon on April 29, 2013.

The groom being well placed in Dubai had not demanded any dowry. Instead, he had given her expensive presents like diamond and gold jewellery. He also sent her TV, mobile phone, laptop etc.

When he had subsequently come down on holidays, he noticed that the wife was always occupied with mobile conversation instead of spending quality time with him. Questioned over it, she had been giving vague replies.

On January 30, 2015, she reportedly eloped with one of her favourite male students who had still not reached the age of maturity. Annoyed over the development, the husband had applied for a divorce in a court here, through his advocate Ravikiran Murdeshwar.

Disposing of the petition, the court held that the woman’s conduct amounted to marital cruelty and granted the husband a divorce.
