Temporary Vande Bharat Stoppage at Puttur Welcomed; MLC Kishor Kumar Puttur Seeks Schedule Revision and Permanent Halt

Puttur: MLC Sri Kishor Kumar Puttur, representing the Udupi–Dakshina Kannada Local Authorities Constituency, has welcomed the decision to grant a temporary, trial-run stoppage for the Mangaluru–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express at Puttur.

Following positive discussions with Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, the MLC said efforts were underway to make the stoppage permanent and revise the train’s schedule for greater passenger convenience.

In a press statement, Kishor Kumar Puttur thanked railway activists who fought for the cause and outlined the steps needed to ensure a permanent stoppage and improved passenger facilities.

“Recently, train passengers, journalists and railway activists from the Puttur–Subrahmanya region held a virtual meeting with me to highlight the railway issues in our region and emphasise the urgent need for a Vande Bharat Express stoppage at Puttur. Their dedication, accurate information, and sustained efforts paved the way for our subsequent initiatives.
“Following this meeting, I wrote to Union Railway Minister Sri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of State for Railways Sri V. Somanna, Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta and South Western Railway officials, urging them to fulfil this demand.

“As a result of our collective efforts, the Vande Bharat Express has now been granted a temporary stoppage at Puttur, which is a matter of great joy,” the MLC stated.

While welcoming the stoppage at Puttur, Kishor Kumar Puttur stressed that revising the train’s timetable was essential to maximise passenger convenience.
“Currently, the train departs from Bengaluru in the morning. Instead, the schedule should be revised so that the train departs early in the morning from the coastal region and returns in the afternoon.

“This adjustment will immensely benefit IT and BT professionals working in Bengaluru, businessmen and weekend travellers visiting their hometowns. Furthermore, it will significantly improve the train’s passenger occupancy,” he said.

“During yesterday’s ‘Ballari Chalo’ Yatra, I had an extensive discussion on this matter with Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta. I clearly communicated the need for immediate action to secure a permanent Vande Bharat Express stoppage at Puttur, introduce a passenger-friendly timetable, and ensure the comprehensive development of Puttur Railway Station.

“During our discussion, the MP gave a positive response and assured his support for efforts to secure a permanent stoppage of the train at Puttur. My heartfelt thanks to Capt. Brijesh Chowta for responding so positively to the demands of the people of coastal Karnataka,” MLC Kishor Kumar Puttur said in his statement.

The MLC reiterated that the permanent stoppage, along with a revised timetable and improved infrastructure at Puttur Railway Station, would greatly benefit passengers from Puttur and the surrounding regions.
