Thekkatte Family Tragedy: Father and Son Dead in Apparent Suicide, Mother Critically Injured

Kundapur: A somber atmosphere has descended upon Thekkatte following a tragic incident in which three members of the same family attempted suicide on Thursday, May 15th. Madhav Devadiga, 56, an employee of the Ankadkatte petrol station, and his 22-year-old son, Prasad Devadiga, were found deceased. Tara Devadiga, the wife and mother, respectively, is currently in critical condition at Koteshwara Hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the family resorted to taking their own lives by jumping into a well located near their residence in Kanchugarubettu. The Kundapur Fire Brigade responded to the scene, recovering the bodies of Madhav and Prasad Devadiga.

According to reports, Tara Devadiga subsequently attempted to take her own life by also jumping into the well after discovering the fate of her husband and son. Fortunately, local residents, including Santosh Shetty and Srinath Shetty, intervened and rescued her after hearing her cries for help. She was immediately transported to Koteshwara Hospital via an ambulance provided by Jeevan Mitra Nagaraj of Kota.

Inspector Raghavendra and officers from the Kot Police Station are currently investigating the incident. A case has been registered, and evidence is being collected.

Local leaders, including Malyadi Shivarama Shetty, Kundapur Municipality member Girish Devadiga, and members of the Tekkate Gram Panchayat, were present at the scene to offer assistance and support.

Authorities have indicated that a suicide note was discovered at the family’s residence, suggesting that insurmountable debt may have been a contributing factor in this devastating act.
