Speaking to mangalorean.com the victim Nizam from the hospital bed said, “On August 7, I received a call from one of our relatives from the gulf, saying that there are vulgar comments posted on facebook, in the name of Jabbar Mangalore against you. As I was not regular on facebook, I just logged into my facebook account and did not find anything in my account.  I asked my friend to check and came to know that a person called Jabbar had posted comments against me and my family members tagging 48 other persons and at the end, it was mentioned by Jabbar – Bader Dala Bengre Ghataka.  I even received threat calls from the gulf during the night. I was ashamed seeing all those comments defaming me and also afraid, I decided to end my life”.
Nizam further said, “On August 8, at around 12:30 am, I consumed half bottle of phenyl to end my life. After consuming phenyl I felt like vomiting, when I was vomiting, my brother saw me and took me to the hospital. I am really afraid of the people who have threatened me of facing the consequences. Earlier I was chatting with someone with the account name Amir Ammi but now I don’t have time as I am busy in my work. I need justice and safety from such people as they have threatened to kill me through the social media.”
His brother Mohammed Rafiq said, “In the night when my brother was vomiting we brought him to the hospital, and admitted him to the ICU.  He was treated in the ICU and has now been shifted to the room”. The people who have threatened my brother should be punished according to  the law, he said.
A case has been registered in Pandeshwar Police station and the investigation is on.
