Three women killed as pickup van crashes into electric pole in K’taka’s Yadgir
Yadgir (Karnataka): At least three women labourers were killed and 15 others injured after a pickup vehicle carrying them crashed into an electric pole near Madnal village in Shahapur taluk of Yadgir district on Sunday.
The accident occurred when the labourers were returning home after completing their day’s work. According to preliminary information, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then rammed into an electricity pole. The impact was so severe that three labourers died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Bhagyashree (35), Satyamma (30) and Honningamma (18).
The injured labourers were shifted to Shahapur hospital for treatment.
The labourers had left early in the morning to work as agricultural labourers in fields around Madnal village, where they were engaged in removing cotton crop residue. The accident occurred while they were returning home after completing the work.
Police from Bhimarayanagudi visited the spot and initiated an investigation into the accident.
More details regarding the case are yet to emerge.
It can be recalled that two construction workers were killed and three others were injured after a cave-in at an underpass construction site in Bengaluru on August 12, prompting the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to order an independent inquiry into the incident.
The cave-in occurred around 10.45 a.m. at the BDA Kanteerava Studio underpass, where PJB Engineers Pvt Ltd, the contractor appointed for the turnkey project, was carrying out work. One of the workers, Parimal Basak, 55, from West Bengal, died at the spot, while Sunaram Tiria, 37, from Odisha, was rescued and taken to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
On August 5, three labourers died, and two others were injured following a reported chemical leak at a factory in Kadechur-Badiyal Industrial Area of Yadgir district in the early hours. The deceased were identified as Vikram and Sanjay, both residents of Katni district in Madhya Pradesh, and Ganesh, a native of Mahabubnagar district in Telangana. All three victims were aged between 20 and 25 years.
