Tiger still in Forest to Vacate Street Vendors – Roopa D Bangera

Mangaluru: The opposition leader Roopa D Bangera held a press meet at the BJP office here on September 16.

Addressing the mediapersons Roopa said that the MCC has failed to maintain cleanliness in the city. The MCC planned to make the city number one in the country and the opposition party wholeheartedly supported. The MCC plans have been limited only to advertisements, announcements and press releases and have not taken any measures to implement them.

She further said that if you want to see the pathetic state of Mangaluru, you need to visit places within the MCC limits. If you go to the city and see the pathetic state of public toilets you will be shocked. You may wonder if this city will get into the list of smart cities. The public toilets are in pathetic condition, people are unable to walk anywhere near the toilets because of the stinking smell. Now the MCC is planning to build 37 public toilets which are a waste of tax payers money. Before investing in the new toilets, let the MCC renovate the old public toilets and maintain them well.

The congress came to power three years ago and still the development work is moving at a snail’s pace. The GHS Road – Hampankatta – Market road has still not been developed. The central market along with other markets do not have basic facilities and due to lack of maintenance, marketplaces have become breeding centers of various diseases. The road behind Lady Goschen reminds us that we are contesting for the most dilapidated road.

She further said, “The Antony waste management company is not performing their job well. We see a lot of waste dumped in public places. The waste management company is not following the norms of MCC but still the administration is supporting the company. The company is showing special interest in collecting the waste from hotels, commercial complexes, and liquor shops but they are not showing any interest in collecting the waste from public places which create suspicion about their operations. This is the failure of the congress ruling in the MCC. If the MCC will not act to streamline the system of waste management, the opposition will hold a protest”, Roopa warned.

There was a raid for two days to vacate the street vendors. Even the health department raided shops and seized plastic but that was a show for only two days. When we asked about vacating the street vendors, they said that they will do the tiger operation. “I think the tiger is still in the forest and yet to come to the city”. If we go and ask the Mayor, he will send us to the Health department and the chairperson of the health department will send us to the health officers for the answer.

Brijesh Chowta, Vedavyas and Premanand Shetty were also present.
