Tit for Tat! Minister Khader Advises MLA Kamath to Speak Sensibly on Water Crisis

Mangaluru: Tit for tat- after Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath during his press meet  (Spoke to CM Kumaraswamy Twice about Water Crisis, What did Congress Leaders Do? – MLA Vedvyas) had blamed Congress for the water scarcity resulting in water rationing in DK, for which District Minister in charge U T Khader slamming back at MLA Kamath during a press meet said “Blaming Congress for water scarcity is foolishness, when there is no chances of early rains whatsoever. My sincere advise to MLA Vedavyas Kamath is that he speaks sensibly when he makes comments on Congress pertaining to water scarcity.

“In order to prevent more water scarcity issues, Mangaluru City Corporation had done the right thing in implementing water rationing in the city, thereby supplying water for two days this week onwards. The rationing of water was supposed to start on April 30, instead, it will in force from May 1. Our MLA had said that Congress should not play politics when it comes to water issues, but as district minister in charge I took all the initiative and I want to tell MLA that I had called him and North MLA Dr Bharath Shetty to discuss about water problems in the city, but both these MLA’s were reluctant to call me back to discuss about water issues. But I still took them into confidence,” added Minister Khader.

Khader further said, “Another thing is that MLA Vedavyas Kamath had also questioned and blamed Congress for not utilizing Rs 115 crore sanctioned for the increase of water level at Thumbay vented dam from 6 meters to 7 meters. It was during former CM Siddaramaiah’s tenure, the new vented dam was constructed with the 6-meter water level, and to increase the water level from 6 mt to 7 meters, certain measures have to be taken in order to give compensation for those whose land will be acquired for that purpose. But since last year no one has raised a question nor discussed anything this issue. Even though during CM Yeddyurappa’s tenure, he had only proposed and sanctioned the new Thumbay dam project, but it was during Congress rule that the actual funds were sanctioned”.

While concluding Minister U T Khader said ” My request to MLA Kamath holding a responsible position, that he should speak sensibly on water issues, and not make unwanted comments. It would be nice if we could stop doing politics in water issues, instead pray to God for early monsoon. As per meteorological dept, rains are expected after June 15, therefore we have to take all kinds of preventive measures towards water crisis”.
