Top Cop to Crack Down on Private Vehicles having Stickers, Insignia and Tint

Mangaluru : “Top Cop”, the Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha, after his team of police from Mangaluru City had nabbed two notorious fraudsters in two separate cases recently, has warned the public owning private vehicles to remove tint, stickers and Insignia (Insignia- distinguishing badge or emblem of military rank, office, or membership of an organization) from their vehicles if they have, or face the consequences if been caught by the cops.

The diktat from the Police Commissioner, comes after two major cases that were booked, where persons posed as top officials of the National Crime Investigation Bureau (NCIB) and World Health Organization (WHO), and cheated people. Police on 16 August under the leadership of Police Inspector Shantaram Kundar from Kadri East police station had nabbed the notorious gangster Sam Peter along with seven other persons in a white SUV which had the NCIB insignia in front, and also tinted windows. In yet another incident couple of days ago, the Mangaluru police nabbed two other culprits who were traveling in a tinted black colored car having insignia of WHO.

Inn both the cases, the culprits had used government insignia and fake stickers to convince people that they are genuine and government officials. The persons traveling in the black SUV having WHO insignia were Shaukat Ahmed Lone, a resident of J & K and his driver, Baljinder Singh- a resident from Punjab state. Police sources reveal that Shaukat who cheated people by posing as Director of WHO, and also promised job offers was arrested by cops after a tip off. The car that Shaukat was traveling had tinted glasses, and also a insignia in front which read ‘Director-WHO’.

In his tweet Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha stated-“Lot of cases of wrong stickers and boards bearing resemblance to government insignia is being noticed…appeal all citizens to remove any such boards and also illegal tinted glasses inn vehicles…a special drive soon to bring defaulters to book..”.Speaking to media Dr Harsha said, “We are taking this issue seriously and have come across several such fraudsters who are roaming around the city by illegally using government insignia, fake stickers and tinted windows on them. All of them are requested to remove them, as a drive against such offences will soon be conducted. Police will take strict action against those involved in such violations”.

violators are caught for the first two times for breaking the rules, the third time they are caught the police will ask the RTO to cancel the violators driving licence. It should be noted that in 2012, Supreme Court had banned the use of black films or tinted glass windows in vehicles. But unfortunately our local cops never took it serious to crack down on such violators, instead once in a while they checked motorists for such violation. In the meantime a social activist speaking to Team Mangalorean said, “Only if the cops had been strict regularly on those having tinted glasses, these incidents wouldn’t have happened. Only certain motorists are targeted, while rich and influential people are allowed to go Scot free. Such crackdown should take place regularly, and not once in a blue moon”.

So all you people, driving around in the City in vehicles with tinted windows, fake stickers and insignia, BEWARE- the cops will be on the look out for such motorists.
