Town Hall Multipurpose Dining Hall not fit for Stage plays – Vijaykumar Kodialbail

Mangaluru: “The newly constructed Multipurpose dining hall in the Town hall premises is not fit to be used for stage plays and cultural programmes. The new hall does not have a well-planned stage to perform cultural or any other programmes”, said Vijayakumar Kodiabail in a press meet held at the Press club here on March 2.

Addressing the mediapersons Vijaykumar Kodialbail said, “The Mangaluru city corporation should take the opinion of the artistes and do the necessary work to facilitate holding cultural programmes as well as stage plays. The dining hall has been constructed to have lunch or dinner during the marriage or other functions. The hall should also have a well-planned stage for the benefit of artistes which can be utilized for cultural programmes or stage plays.”

Vijaykumar also said, “During the inauguration, the district minister in-charge said that the hall has been constructed for multipurpose use and should be utilized to hold cultural programmes as well as stage plays. But the hall is not fit to hold any cultural programmes or stage plays. Without any experience, one should not make a stage for the artistes which does not serve the purpose. Another problem is that there is a severe echo in the hall because of which the voice is not audible”.

Stageplay artiste Vidhu Uchil said, “In the multipurpose hall, no green room for the artistes. The noise from the vehicles honking is severe and will not allow the audience to concentrate. Without a proper plan for its use, the dining hall has been constructed. The concerned authorities should do the necessary work to facilitate holding cultural programmes as well as stage plays. The concerned authorities should take all the measures to reconstruct the stage at the dining hall”.
