Trade Unions’ Nationwide Strike Begins Peacefully in Udupi

Udupi: The nationwide strike called by various trade unions on Friday, September 2 to protest against the anti-policies of the Union government began in Udupi district.

Buses of the state-owned Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, Canara Bus Association and City Bus Association were off the roads while shops business establishments were closed in most parts of the city. Limited autorickshaws, taxis, private four wheelers and two wheelers could be seen on the roads.

According to deputy commissioner T Venkatesh, schools and colleges will function as usual. Some private schools have already declared holidays. The LIC, bank employees, Anganwadi mid-day meal workers, grama panchayat workers, and health workers are in support of the strike.
