Tragedy Strikes Sasihithlu Beach: One Dead, Three Rescued
Surathkal: A pall of grief has descended upon the coastal community of Surathkal following a tragic incident at Sasihithlu Beach on Sunday evening. Mohammed Sameer (23), son of the late Anwar and a resident of Kajakatota in Padupanambur, lost his life after being caught in a strong current while swimming.
A group of four individuals, including Mohammed Sameer, Aiman (23), Rayees (22), all from Kajakatota, and Fazil of Bolloor, Haleangadi, found themselves struggling against the waves at Sasihithlu Moonda Beach.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that six children from the same family had arrived for an evening picnic. While enjoying the water, three—Mohammed Sameer, Aiman, and Fazil—were caught by a large wave.
Local fishermen, alerted by cries from the shore, quickly rescued Aiman, Rayees, and Fazil, who were taken to a private hospital in Mukka. Aiman and Fazil are reported to be out of danger, while Mohammed Sameer tragically did not survive.
The Surathkal police department promptly responded to the incident, dispatching officers to the scene to conduct a thorough inspection. A formal case has been registered, and a comprehensive investigation is currently underway to determine the precise circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
Authorities are urging beachgoers to exercise caution and remain vigilant, especially during periods of strong currents and rough sea conditions.
