Trasi-Maravanthe Beach Development Work to Be Completed Within Three to Four Months: Minister K.J. George
Kundapur: Development works at Trasi-Maravanthe Beach, located along National Highway 66 between the sea and the river, will be completed within the next three to four months to improve facilities for tourists, Tourism and Energy Minister K.J. George said.
The Minister was speaking after visiting Trasi-Maravanthe Beach on Monday and inspecting the ongoing development works.
Development works at Trasi Beach, including a parking facility, food court, cycle track, open-air theatre and other amenities, are being carried out at an estimated cost of Rs 9.95 crore. The works have been underway for the past two years. The pace of construction will now be accelerated to ensure completion at the earliest, George said.
He said developing beaches along the coastal region and providing modern facilities such as drinking water, lighting, well-equipped toilets, vehicle parking and seating arrangements would further boost tourism. This, in turn, would increase tourist footfall and create more employment opportunities for local residents, he added.
The Minister said discussions would be held with engineers of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) regarding the construction of a skywalk across the highway to provide direct access between the beach and nearby hotels. He stressed that development works would be undertaken based on the needs of the public and tourists, without incurring unnecessary expenditure.
The Trasi-Maravanthe Beach stretches for around 1.5 km along the national highway and currently lacks adequate fencing. As a result, tourists often park their vehicles indiscriminately along the highway before accessing the beach. George said measures would be taken to monitor the area, and local lifeguards would be appointed after being provided with the necessary training to ensure their safety.
He further said that thousands of tourists and devotees visit several religious destinations in the district, including the Sri Krishna Matha and the Kollur Mookambika Temple. Systematic infrastructure and other facilities would be developed to support and promote these important religious destinations, he added.
Former MLA Gopal Poojary, Coastal Development Board Chairman M.A. Gafoor, District Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee Chairman Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Tourism Department Secretary Ram Prasath Manohar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abid Gadhyal, District Assistant Director of Tourism Vindhya N.M. and others were present.
