Mangaluru: Authorities have apprehended two individuals in connection with a sophisticated cyber fraud operation that defrauded a Mangaluru resident of Rs 7.27 lakh. The arrests stem from a case registered at the CEN Crime Police Station in Mangaluru, where the victim reported being deceived by individuals impersonating Customs officials.

The accused have been identified as Damen Joy Reang, 27, a resident of Tripura, and Hamangit Reail Kom, 33, hailing from Manipur.

The investigation, initiated following the victim’s complaint, meticulously traced the network of bank accounts used to funnel the fraudulently obtained funds. This led to the arrest of Damen Joy Reang in Bengaluru on November 13, 2025. Reang was subsequently presented before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

Further investigation unearthed the involvement of Hamangit Reail Kom, also known as Mangte Amosh, who is alleged to have been a key facilitator in the cyber fraud scheme. Kom was apprehended in Bengaluru on November 15, 2025, and presented before the court on November 16, 2025, where he was also remanded to judicial custody.

A particularly alarming discovery during the investigation revealed that Hmngte Reail Kom @ Mangte Amosh had allegedly provided access to an extensive network of financial resources for illicit purposes, facilitating the use of over 300 bank accounts and more than 250 SIM cards for various cyber fraud operations. This highlights the scale and complexity of the criminal enterprise.
During the arrests, police seized a substantial amount of material evidence, including:

  • Eight (08) mobile phones
  • Twenty (20) debit cards from various banks
  • Eighteen (18) bank passbooks
  • Eleven (11) cheque books
  • Seven (07) SIM cards

The operation was conducted by officials and staff of the Mangaluru City CEN Crime Police Station, demonstrating their commitment to combating cybercrime within the region.

This case underscores the growing threat of cyber fraud and the importance of public awareness regarding online scams. The Mangaluru police are continuing their investigation to dismantle the wider network associated with these individuals and bring all those involved to justice.
