Two including 9-year-old boy drown at Malpe Beach

Udupi: In two separate incidents, two persons, including 9-year-old boy drowned at the Malpe beach on Friday, October 19 evening.

The deceased have been identified as Suresh (29) a resident of Dabaspete, Tumkur district and Mokshith (9) Son of Advocate Anand and Rudrani a resident of Hassan district.

In a first incident, a group of 14 members including Suresh had arrived at the Malpe beach after visiting Sabarimala and Dharmasthala Temples. When Suresh had gone into the water to play, he was hit by a large wave due to which he lost balance and was dragged into the sea and drowned.

In another incident Anand, his wife and son Mokshith had arrived at the Malpe beach and all the three were playing in the water. Mokshith was dragged by strong waves and drowned. The lifeguards who were at the spot managed to bring Mokshith to the shore but by the time he had breathed his last.

Autopsies were conducted at a government hospital in Udupi.

A case has been registered in the Malpe Police Station.
