Two Mangaluru Police Officers Suspended for Investigative Lapses in Overseas Job Fraud Case
Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police has announced the immediate suspension of two police officers following a review of their handling of criminal cases pertaining to fraudulent overseas job recruitment schemes. The suspensions come in response to what authorities have deemed as serious lapses in investigative procedure and dereliction of duty.
Inspector Shri Somasekhar G.C., formerly of the Mangaluru East Police Station, has been suspended for failing to take adequate legal action against M/s Hireglow Elegant Overseas International Pvt. Ltd., despite prior complaints and explicit directions to do so. His inaction is believed to have facilitated the continuation of the company’s fraudulent activities, resulting in the defrauding of job aspirants to the tune of over Rs. 1.82 crore.
Furthermore, PSI Shri Umesh Kumar M.N., currently stationed at Barke Police Station and formerly the Investigating Officer in Crime No. 235/2024 at the Mangaluru East Police Station, has also been suspended. The suspension stems from multiple identified investigative shortcomings, including a failure to apprehend the accused, collect crucial evidence, adequately examine victims and witnesses, and pursue pertinent financial leads. These failures have demonstrably compromised the integrity of the investigation.
A statement released by the Mangaluru City Police characterized the officers’ actions as indicative of negligence, irresponsibility, and a breach of duty. Consequently, departmental disciplinary proceedings have been formally initiated against both Inspector Somasekhar G.C. and PSI Umesh Kumar M.N. The proceedings will aim to determine the full extent of their culpability and the appropriate disciplinary measures to be taken.
