UAE: As part of the CSR activity, GMC Hospital Ajman observed Earth Hour in its administrative wing. Akbar Moideen Thumbay Director Healthcare Thumbay Group participated in the event by joining a number of employees gathered at the hospital’s administrative building area to join millions of people around the globe in turning-off non-essential lights. Once the lights were switched-off, participants switched on hundreds of LED tea light candles to show their support for the environment. GMC Hospital took an active step in supporting a global activity that helps prevent climate‬ change and remains committed to participate in future initiatives that protect the environment.

All the emergency and regular services at the hospital were uninterrupted. Akbar Moideen said ‘the main objective of celebrating Earth Hour is to raise awareness of the adoption of such practices which would contribute significantly to reduce wastage of energy and water consumption and cut emissions’. This is one hour the world unites in a stand against global warming

He also reiterated that energy consumption is one of the most effective factors to achieve objectives of the green economy of the UAE. Earlier in the day, senior administrative staff of the hospital made presentations and created awareness about the Earth Hour.

What was famously started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007 has grown to engage more than 7000 cities and towns worldwide. Today, Earth Hour engages a massive mainstream community on a broad range of environmental issues. The one-hour event continues to remain the key driver of the now larger movement.

With each passing year, Earth Hour is becoming more than just an hour, more than just an action: it is becoming a movement and a platform. Climate change is not just the issue of the hour; it’s the issue of our generation. To join this conservation initiative, organizations and individuals are being encouraged to participate by turning off unnecessary lights and appliances from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.
