Udupi: A total of 2,349 enumerators will take part in the Social and Educational Survey (caste census) scheduled to be held from 11th to 30th April in Udupi district, said Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar.
He was speaking after inaugurating the interaction with mediapersons on Social and Educational Survey (caste census) here on Monday, April 6 at the Press Club. He said that additional 108 enumerators have been reserved in case of emergency.
The census is conducted based on the population according to 2011 census. The outcome of the caste census, being held for the first time after 1931, would help the government in providing facilities to the needy such as reservation in jobs, seats in schools and scholarships among other aspects.
The enumerators will spend 15 to 20 minutes at each household, collecting information on caste, size of each family, employment status of its members and their education qualification and economic status. The census findings will help the authorities to analyse the socio-economic condition of each caste.
The census questionnaire is divided into six parts starting with address and geographical location of the household, personal details of the head of the family and the members. Parts two and three of the survey will include household schedule and educational and employment details of the family members. Part four of the survey deals with annual income of the family, income tax details, bank accounts. The fifth part deals with membership in local bodies and cooperative societies.
The last concluding part of the survey will have questions on economic, social aspects especially land holdings, movable and immovable properties, water sources in the house, toilet facilities and so on. Stating that already steps have been taken to inform the people about the importance of the caste census, the ADC said that taluk-level meetings had been held for this purpose. He also appealed to the people to give correct information to the census officials so that the data collected is accurate.
When mangalorean.com asked Kumar about Roman Catholics and Protestants, the two prominent sub-castes among Christians, missing in the census form, the ADC said that the people of these communities can add their caste details in others column.
Later, the ADC felicitated the UDWJA cricket team which won third place in a state-level cricket match that was held in Madikeri recently.
