Udupi Celebrates Janmashtami with Traditional Pomp and Gaiety

Udupi: Sri Krishna Janmashtami festival was celebrated with traditional pomp and gaiety here on Sunday, September 2 midnight.

The temple was decorated with different types of flowers right from the entrance to the sanctum sanctorum. Veidyadeesha Swamiji of Paryaya Palimar Math participated in the rituals connected with Janmashtami at the Temple. He was assisted by Ishapriya Theertha, junior Swamiji of Adamar Math.

Devotees were seen standing in a long queue since early morning at the Temple to have the Darshan of the presiding deity Lord Sri Krishna. As part of the celebrations, rituals like ‘Laksha Tulsi Archana’ and ‘Mahapuja’ were offered to the Lord by Paryaya Palimar Swamiji. Paryaya Palimar Math Swamiji and Adamar Swamiji, both – performed the ‘Arghyapradan’ at midnight.

A large number of devotees, from the cowherd community, from in and around Udupi district offered ‘Arghyapradan’ in the Sanctorum of the Temple. A special Puja was performed at the Temple at midnight after fasting in the day by the Swamijis and devotees.
