Udupi District Celebrates 65th Kannada Rajyotsava with Grandeur
Udupi: The 65th Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated with grandeur at the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium Ajjarkad, Udupi on November 1.
In the absence of the Udupi District minister In-charge Basavraj Bommai, deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh hoisted the flag and received the guard of honour. The celebration commenced with the police parade involving various teams led by the parade commander of the District Armed Reserve Police.
DC Jagadeesh spoke about the culture and tradition of Karnataka, stating that, Kannada is a 2000-year-old language with immensely significant history. Kannada is not just a language but a lifestyle, culture, and art. Urging people to promote and preserve Kannada he added saying, “The State holds immense pleasure to say, it is a place of eight Jnanapeeta awards which have contributed enormously to Kannada literature”.
Speaking on the contributions to Kannada Nadu, the DC further said, “Successive lineages of kings who ruled our state provided the impetus to the growth of Kannada language, tradition, art, literature, plays, music, sculpture and culture. The democratically elected governments have also contributed immensely to Kannada by taking it as their social responsibility”.
The district Rajyotsava Award was presented to 36 achievers and four organisations on the occasion.
Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, ZP president Dinakar Babu, CMC President Sumithra Nayak, Udupi ZP CEO Dr Naveen Bhat, SP N Vishnuvardhan, CDC chairman Mattar Rathnakarr Hegde, UUDA president Raghavendra Kini, ADC Sadashiv Prabhu, Dist Kannada Sahitya Parishad president Neelavara Surendra Adiga and others were present.
