Udupi: District police adopt e-initiative, launch new website for good policing

Udupi: It’s the time to discover new ways to enforce law and protect the rights of the people. The Udupi District Police under the direction of Annamalai K, District Superintendent of Police, have launched a new website www.udupipolice.org to reach out to the citizens.

It all started with the launch of the police android application, Suraksha App, and with the tremendous support from the general public, the department has moved one step ahead and launched its own website.

The website has unique features like complaint registration, tracking of applications, applications submission, and this e-initiative by the police department will help the masses at large, said Annamalai K. The website has details of police officers around the district. The details of the police station, officers on duty, sakala services and others features have also been enabled on the website.

A list of wanted and missing persons is also updated on the website. The people can download forms and upload the same in the website. The list of documents required for various services are also published on the website.

Temple thefts have been rising in the district. There are many A and B grade temples unguarded in the districts. The Muzrai department has been instructed to install CCTV cameras in temple premises. Chain snatching cases are significantly low but preventive measures have been adapted. Police beats have been increased during the wee hours. The citizens should be careful as thiefs regularly use new tricks for chain snatching.

A new feature has been enabled in the Suraksha app to find police stations. The app contains navigation; if the name of the police station is entered in the app, it will guide you to the police station through Google maps.

Minor complaints are alo being received in the Suraksha app. Citizens are widely using the app. The people using IOS can also download the app. Touristsregularly visit the district and the navigation is enabled to guide them to police stations. The application has also the numbers of police officers of the respective jurisdiction.

He further said that the state government has to pass a notification to make wearing of helmets compulsory. “The police have no powers to do so. Principals and correspondents of colleges have been consulted to make wearing helmets compulsory in their respective college and school campuses. Principals have also asked the students to submit their vehicle records to identify the students who ride vehicles without licenses. Regular drives have also been organized to identify underage students driving vehicles. The TAPMI campus has asked its students to wear helmets, with a fine of Rs 5000 imposed on those who don’t.”

Majority of complaints are received on reckless driving of private bus drivers. A session for drivers and conductors will be organized. The problem of timing still persists among private bus drivers. The timing cannot be issued to the bus permits that were issued during the last 2 years. Bus operators will be taken into confidence, he added.

Chipsy technology under the guidance of Sandeep Bhakta has developed the website and application. IT administrator Vijay and Crime Branch Shivanad have put in efforts for the website, he added.

Additional Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar, Karkala ASP Dr. Suman, Udupi DySP K.M Chandrashekar, Udupi CPI Srikanth, Traffic PSI Madu, Udupi Town PSI Girish and others were present.

When media person asked about the investigation of Susheela Shetty missing case, Annamalai K said that before she went missing, Susheela had consulted her doctor and had informed him of leaving the house following a dispute. He also said that every effort is being made to trace the woman.

In the Hiriyadka Temple theft case, the SP said that credible information has been presented on the offenders and they will be nabbed soon.
