Udupi: A man had been found dead near the Karavali circle here on Tuesday. The town police were informed.

It was initially thought to be an unnatural death. But investigations revealed that the dead person was Karibasavaiah (50), a daily wage-earner hailing from Hungund in Bagalkot district of northern Karnatak, who lived with his wife, Renuka (45).

Renuka allegedly had an illicit relationship with a much younger co-worker, Sharanappa (30). Because of this, there were regular domestic fights between the couple.

An altercation on Monday afternoon took an ugly turn, with Karibasavaiah threatening to hang himself if she did not stop carrying on him. While he reportedly pretended to hang himself, the noose in fact got tightened and he died.

In panic, the wife hid the body at home and in the night carried to the side of the road and placed it there to create an impression that he had died of a different cause.

When his body was found the next morning, injuries were found on his neck. In the meantime, the relatives told the police of Renuka’s relationship with Sharanappa and how it led to constant fights at home. They took Renuka into custody and interrogated her.. She narrated the full story.

She and Sharanappa were arrested and they have been booked for abetment to suicide.
