Udupi: Residents of Panjimar near Shirva in the district have reported stray movement of a leopard or two in the surroundings.

About a fortnight ago, a leopard came in the way of a speeding car, got hit and escaped. Its fate is unknown.

With several educational institutions functioning around Panjimar, such a situation has been created that children are scared to go to school or parents do not want their wards to face any risk.

Besides, pet animals from homes also have been targeted by the leopard. Two goats belonging to Vincent Castelino of Panjimar Palke fell prey to it recently.

On Sunday night, two dogs were carried away from Manai Doddamane compound. Many others have said that their dogs have gone missing during the past few days.

Same is the situation in Bantakal, Manippady and other places. The residents of all these places live in a state of fear. The forest personnel have placed a cage in the periphery of Manippadi forest. The residents have complained that the cage is unscientifically devised and that there is no possibility of leopards getting trapped in it.
