Udupi: Teenage cricket prodigies of their times, Sachin Tendulkar, Vinod Kambli, Parthiv Patel, Sarfaraz Khan and others may have had a lion’s share of opportunities because most of them hailed from Mumbai.

That there are scores of others in other parts of the country but sadly do not get recognized because of lack of national-level exposure is a well-known fact. It was proved here when Azan Tota, aged 13, hailing from Ajjarakad, hit a dazzling knock of 190 runs in just 92 deliveries in a recognized cricket match.

He notched up this record in the Under-14 boys’ cricket tournament held under the aegis of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in the NITK grounds in Suratkal on Friday, May 1.

His breezy contribution consisted of 34 hits to the boundary. He also shone in the bowling department by claiming three wickets.

Under his captaincy, the Galaxy Sports Club batted first and piled up 260 runs in the allotted 30 overs. The rival team MOC was bundled out for a mere 70 runs. The next match is due on May 6.

Azan is the son of M Faizal Tota and Mauzi Tota of Ajjarkad and a VII Standard student of Vidyodaya School here.
