Udupi Police Arrest Nine in Drug Trafficking Cases; Narcotics Worth Lakhs Seized
Udupi: In two separate operations conducted by Shirva and Udupi Town police, nine persons were arrested in connection with cases involving the possession and trafficking of banned narcotic substances. Police seized narcotics, vehicles, cash and other materials worth lakhs of rupees from the accused.
Acting on information that some individuals were transporting narcotic substances in two cars and a scooter near Bhadramma Road in Padubelle, Belle village, Kaup taluk, police conducted a raid on the evening of September 22.
Police identified the arrested persons as Alnaz, Anas, Altaf, Stany Sandeep, Shakeeb, Faizal, Imtiyaz, Ajay Kumar and Santhosh Devadiga.
Police seized 1,354.28 grams of ganja valued at Rs 67,714, 32.74 grams of methamphetamine worth Rs 1,30,960, two cars and a scooter allegedly used in the offence, nine mobile phones, two weighing machines and Rs 75,010 in cash.
Shirva Police Station has registered a case.
During further investigation led by Shirva Police Station PSI Anil, police reportedly discovered that the accused had allegedly procured ganja from Uppala in Kerala and were selling it. Investigators also found that several of the accused had criminal cases registered against them at various police stations and were allegedly involved in other criminal activities.
In a separate operation, Udupi Town Police arrested Srivatsa K.G., a resident of Sagar taluk in Shivamogga district, for allegedly storing ganja at a house on Vadiraja Road in Udupi.
Acting on credible information, Udupi Town Police Station PSI Bharatesh Kankanawadi and his team conducted a raid at around 12:30 a.m. on September 23.
Police seized 1 kg 659.91 grams of ganja worth Rs 83,000, Rs 1,26,500 in cash, a digital weighing scale and other materials from his possession.
A case has been registered at the Udupi Town Police Station.
Police said that several of the arrested persons have previous criminal cases registered against them at various police stations in the district.
- Stany Sandeep: One case registered at Manipal Police Station.
- Faizal: Three cases, including one each at Malpe, Karkala Rural and Manipal police stations.
- Imtiyaz: Eight cases, including three at Udupi Town Police Station, one murder case at Brahmavar Police Station, one at Malpe Police Station, and three at Manipal Police Station.
- Ajay Kumar: Three cases, including one robbery case at Udupi Town Police Station and one each at Manipal and Shirva police stations.
- Santhosh Devadiga: Two cases related to ganja consumption registered at Udupi Town Police Station.
The operations were conducted under the leadership of Udupi Town Police Station Inspector Mahesh Prasad P. and Kaup Circle Inspector Azmath Ali.
Shirva PSI Anil, Kaup PSI Shubhakara, ASIs Sudesh and Sundaragowda, police personnel Manjunath, Harsha, Arun, Nagaraj, Sharan and Kishore, CEN Police Station personnel Praveen and Deekshith, Manipal Police Station personnel Vishwajith, and Udupi Town Police Station personnel Bharatesh Kankanawadi, Prakash, Basheer Ahmed, Anand Ganiga and other staff, along with SOKO personnel, participated in the operations.
