Udupi to hold First Beach Volleyball standing National Championship 2018 at Malpe beach

Udupi: The Udupi district administration in association with Paralympic Volleyball Federation of India and Paralympics Committee of India is organizing the first Beach Volley Ball standing national Championship 2018 at Malpe beach from 27 September to 29 September said H Chandrashekar President of Paralympics Volleyball Federation of India.

He was speaking at a press meet held at Hotel Country Inn Manipal on Tuesday, September 25. Para Beach volleyball teams from 15 states have confirmed with around 200 athletes likely to participate for the said National Championship.

The participating teams are Karnataka, Goa, Telangangana, Tamilnadu, Pondicherry, Maharastra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Haryana, Bihar, West Bengal, Kerala, Jharkhand, Delhi etc.

The Championship will be played under the rules and regulations of FIVB? World Para Volley/PVFI. The total prize money of the tournament for winners, runners, the third and fourth place is Rs one lakh.

In the Championship the Indian National Para Beach Volleyball team will be selected under the exports and SAI committee for the purpose of the forthcoming proposed old beach volleyball series in Goa during February 2019.

The other purpose for selecting the venue, Malpe beach is because of the World Tourism day on 27th September and the National Sports Day on 29th September. The said Championship has been allotted Malpe beach because of the World beach festival day on 29 and 30 September.

Dr Jayamala minister for women and Child Development and Empowerment of Differently abled and senior citizens and also the Udupi district minister in-charge will inaugurate the Championship on 27 September at 10 am. Udupi Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, Udupi ZP president Dinakar Babu, Priyanka Mary Francis DC Udupi, Shivanand Kapasi CEO ZP, A Rajkumar International Beach Volleyball, Bronze Medalist in Asian Games, Yashpal Suvarna, President Udupi and DK District Fish Federation, Dr Jaganathan Director NICF, Govt of India, Laxman Nimbargi SP Udupi, Janardhan Commissioner Udupi CMC and others will take part in the inaugural ceremony.

Beach, wine festival by Tourism Dept on Malpe beach from September 27

The Tourism Department district unit will organise the World Tourism Day programme from September 27 to 30 under the theme ‘Tourism and Digital Transformation’.

Tourism Department Udupi assistant director Anitha Bhaskar addresses a press meet on the ‘Paryatan Parva’ programme on Malpe beach for World Tourism Day.

“The theme is designed to ensure big data helps digital platforms, artificial intelligence and the know-how of technological systems by facilitating the implementation of products, services and process that ultimately contribute to tourism transformation into a more sustainable sector. It also aims to explore the challenges and opportunities through modern technological platforms,” said the officer and added, “Interestingly, specific interest in travel has been on the rise in recent days.”

She said that a variety of programmes will be held at Malpe, Padubidri, Trasi and Maravanthe beaches in the district. “The programme comprises live beach sessions and demonstrations, surfing demonstrations, heritage sale, cycling race, remote control air show, Swachhata Pakwada programme and Kishkinda artefacts exhibition,” she listed out.

“Live Yoga session and demonstration will be held for an hour on Malpe beach and around 200 people are expected to participate. The surfing demonstration will be held on all four days at Malpe, Kaup, Padubidri and Kundapur Kodi beaches in association with the Surfing Federation of India. The remote control air show is organised at the Yuva Meridian helipad grounds at Koteshwar,” Anitha explained.

The wine festival will be held in association with the Karnataka Wine Board. National and international wineries will participate, said the assistant director.

“Wine education session and sales will be held to promote moderate wine consumption. It offers and opportunity to stake holders to foster trade and business. The wine festival will include grape-stomping,” she explained.

Cultural programmes will be organised in the evenings of all the four days, said the officer.

“Yakshagana ballets, classical and non classical dance shows, Kangilu dance, Karaga-Kolata, Damami dance, Kathak, musical nights, the traditional dance of Koraga community, Dollu Kunita and folk music concert will entertain the audience on the beaches,” said Anitha.

“The food festival will serve especially sea food delicacies and desserts like ice cream and chocolates.
