Udupi: Vinay Kumar Sorake Inaugurates High-tech women’s Fish Market in Shirva

Udupi: The high-tech Women’s Fish Market built by the Gram Panchayat of Shirva, the Coastal Development Authority and the National Fish Development Board Hyderabad was inaugurated at Shirva here, on November 14.

The programme began with an invocation. Pradeep D’Souza, secretary of Coastal Development Authority, welcomed the gathering. Vinay Kumar Sorake, district minister in-charge and Urban Development minister, inaugurated the high-tech women’s fish market.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Sorake said that the government was committed to the welfare of the fisherwomen. The fish market in Shirva has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 80 lakh. Shirva, being a gram, is in the path of overall development; a major portion of the MLA grants has been utilized for the Shirva gram. The Katpadi-Shirva-Belman road widening work is in process. The foundation stone has been laid for the construction of the initial phase of 5 km stretch of Athrady-Manipal-Shirva-Bajpe airport road. Supply of pure drinking water for villages will also be undertaken, he said.

Shobha Karandlaje MP of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Chairman of Coastal Development Authority Nivedit Alva, Chairman of Karnataka Fishing Development Board Hiriyanna Chatrabettu, TP president Sunitha Naik, ZP members Ida Gibba D’Souza and Githanjali Suvarna, president of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Fish Marketing Federation Yaspal Suvarna, Shirva Gram Panchayat president Varija Poojarthy and others were present.
