Udupi: 52.25 percent voting recorded till 1 pm for 26 ZP and 98 Taluk Panchyat Polls

Udupi: (Update): The Udupi district recored 52.25 percent voting in zilla panchyath and Taluk Panchyat till 3 pm.

The Udupi Taluk recorded 51.09 percent, Kundapur 50.16 percent and Karkala 58.50 percent of voting recorded till 3 pm.

Udupi: (Update): There was good response to the elections for zilla panchyath and Taluk Panchyat in Udupi district with 37.89 percent voting till 1 pm.

The Udupi Taluk recorded 36.51 percent, Kundapur 35.41 percent and Karkala 41.78 percent of voting recorded till 1 pm.

 

Udupi: Voting Begins for 26 ZP and 98 Taluk Panchyat Constituencies across District

Udupi: Voting began across the district on Saturday February 20 morning for the 26 ZP and 98 Taluk panchyat constituencies amid tight security arrangements. Udupi TP has 41 seats, Kundapur TP has 37 and Karkala TP has 20 seats. Polling is being held from 7 AM to 5 PM in all the 26 ZP and 98 ZP constituencies across the district.

A total of 77 candidates are contesting for the 26 Zilla Panchayat seats in Udupi district.

Out of the 77 nominations, 26 each are from Congress and BJP, while six are from JD(S), four each from BSP and CPI(M) and 11 are Independent candidates. There are 26 zilla panchayat seats (Kundapur 10, Udupi 11 and Karkala five) in the district. The Congress and the BJP have fielded the nominees for all the zilla panchayat seats in the district. While JD(S) is contesting for two seats in Kundapur, three in Udupi and one in Karkala.

As many as 233 nominees have remained in the fray for the taluk panchayat elections in the district. There are 98 taluk panchayat constituencies in the district – of which 37 are in Kundapur, 41 in Udupi and 20 in Karkala. Out of the 233 nominations, 98 each are from the Congress and the BJP, 10 from the JD(S), 12 from the CPI(M), one from the SDPI and 14 are independent candidates.

The district administration is all set to ensure adequate arrangements to hold free and fair elections. There are 7,93,523 (380030 – Male, 413471- Female, 22 -Transgender) voters in the district. As many as 2,152 EVMs have been distributed and 188 are reserved – of which 92 are used for training purpose. The 2,152 power packs required for EVMs are distributed to the taluks. There are 936 polling stations – of which, 904 are the main polling booths and 32 are auxiliaries. There are as many as 55 sensitive polling booths, 12 hyper-sensitive and 26 Maoist-prone polling booths. Security has been beefed up at all the polling places.
