Udupi: Women Have Played Prominent Role in Promoting Konkani Language – Padma Shenoy

Udupi: “Konkani language has its own tradition. Women have played a prominent role in promoting Konkani language through their notable works,” said Padma Shenoy, president of Konkani Matha Convention.

She was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the state-level Karnataka Konkani Mahila Sahitya-Samskriti Sammelan at the Muddanna Mantapa of MGM College on Saturday, November 28.

“24 languages have been recognised by the central government and Konkani is one among them which is due to its rich tradition. Mothers should play a prominent role in the growth of their child. Education imparted in schools is knowledge oriented but a mother’s care develops the child’s personality,” said Padma.

Sandhya Pai, honorary president of the convention, in her keynote address said that the Konkani community is uniting today because of the language and this saga should continue.

Malathi Sagar, Rajashree Shenoy Ullal, Anuradha Dhareshwar Dharawada and Sabitha Monis were felicitated during the convention for their achievements in their respective fields.

Dr Shalini Prabu Bengaluru; Poet Nithu; Actress Aishwarya Naag; Jet Airways Pilot Swathi Shevade; Dr Lavanya Shanubhag; various Konkani Community reprsentatives; Anusuya Kamath, Sumithra H Nayak, Shreemathi A Takoor, Smitha, Kasthuri Shet, Veena lavakkar, Naveena R Nayak, Parwathi Udupi, Prathima Nayak, Sandhya D Manekkar, Somiraya Siddi, Deepali Kambadakone, Gayathri Shirodkar, Indira Venkatesh Mestha, Usharani Madiwala and Bhatiya Habbir Shiroor were present.

Laxmi S Rao, working president of the convention, welcomed the gathering. Shruthi G Shenoy delivered the vote of thanks. Smitha Shenoy Mangaluru and Dr Vijyalaxmi Nayak compered the programme.
