Fringe or no fringe, for this gorgeous, ravishing and stunning Udyavar-Udupi lass with a lot of gusto and a resplendent personality, Adline had outclassed the rest of the contestants to win this prestigious title, among the rest of the contestants. Gorgeous, honest and extremely talented are the few words that could describe Adline, to win such a prestigious beauty pageant crown. Adline had made the country proud with her elegance, poise and spirit as she bagged the much-coveted title with great aplomb. She will now go on to represent India at Miss Universe while the nation pins hopes to her to bring back the much longed-for crown.

Born in Kuwait on 24 July 1998, Adline Mewis Quadros Castelino to Alphonsus and Meera Castelino, ( both employed in Kuwait) originally from Udyavara in the city of Udupi. In Kuwait, Castelino attended the Indian Central School. At age 15, Castelino returned to India and moved to Mumbai, where she attended secondary school at St. Xavier College, Fort-Mumbai. She subsequently attended the Wilson College in Mumbai, where she graduated with a degree in business administration. Adline always endeavored to work in the Agriculture business and support farmers through her firsthand exposure in the field. She believes that bringing together NGOs with like minded visionaries who wish to help farmers increase their revenue and build a sustainable livelihood would reap great rewards for the rural community as a whole. She is also keen about encouraging leadership qualities in women by conducting Leadership Programs as well as spreading more awareness about the acceptance of the LGBTQ community.

Castelino works with a welfare organization called VSP which functions to provide a sustainable livelihood for framers to curb farmers’ suicides and inequality. She has also collaborated with a crowd funding platform called Ketto to initiate a fundraiser for the Child Help Foundation (CHF), a non-profit organization operating in India. Aside from working as a model, Castelino has participated in various trivial pageants in India. She further commenced her training for pageants through the Cocoaberry Training Academy in Mumbai. In 2019, she was crowned as ‘Miss Cocoberry Diva’ by the institution.

As an avid badminton player during her school and college terms, Adline has always been inclined towards sports. It is no surprise then that she chose Deepa Malik as her muse for inspiration. Deepa is the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Para Olympics, as well as a great leader who inspires everyone around her to strive for greatness and overcome all obstacles that may come in the way. She truly embodies the belief that ‘what the mind can conceive, a person can achieve’. Aside from playing badminton, Adline also loves to indulge in western dance, reading and cycling as hobbies.

A beauty pageant or beauty contest is a competition that mainly focuses on the physical beauty of its contestants, although such contests also incorporate personality, intelligence, talent, and answers to judges’ questions as judged criteria. Beauty pageants remain one of the oldest and well-known symbols of sexism in society today. However, the fact remains that beauty pageants still celebrate and reward a narrow view of feminine beauty. Many females who participate in beauty pageants contribute more to society than many would have expected in the past. By their very nature, beauty pageants support the idea that, for women, any noteworthy success or accomplishment should ideally be presented in a pretty package – conventional feminine attractiveness being the package in question.

Speaking to media, the 22-year-old winner feeling grateful to those who helped and guided her throughout her journey said, “This is a huge honour and responsibility of representing my incredible country at such a prestigious platform such as Miss Universe. It has been 20 years since India won, so the stakes are really high, but the passion is stronger. I am backed with a wonderful team and we share the same vision for our country. The preparations for Miss Universe are yet to start but the team will be going through all aspects by thinking out of the box”.

“This is about my country, there is a lot of research to do on the history and mystery and imbibe it in the vision. I have an amazing team sharing the same vision for India. Winning Miss Diva Universe has made me realize that one should be “prepared for anything and everything. I never anticipated the change this journey would have on me and my life. I’m glad I was able to embark on it, face every hurdle and grow through the obstacles. Staying independently and away from home for a long time prepared me for it.” added Adline. Castelino grew up idolizing Sushmita Sen, who had won the title of Miss Universe back in 1994, and she says the Bollywood actor became an inspiration for her to chase her pageant dream. “I was very fond of her positive nature and that is what I inculcated in me. I found it very brave and inspiring when she gave home to the both of her daughters without anyone’s support,” added Adline. She also wishes to improve her networking and communication skills along the way and throw light on matters that involve both purpose and service.

For young Adline, love is the purest emotion that can’t be expressed in words. Looking the youthful 22 that she is, Adline is a damsel with a lot of gusto and a resplendent personality. She is incredibly sharp, intelligent, confident, and poised, and she was unbelievably good while interacting with media persons, including Team Mangalorean. She has always understood fashion and style to be an expression of the unique and beautiful inner self of each individual person. Her simple and modest demeanour translated into the sense of fashion which she appreciates herself. Ever since she won the Title, she has found that her sense of style has become more expressive of who she is. The ‘Miss Diva Universe 2020′ Pageant had provided a fascinating glimpse into how Indian standards of femininity have been defined, projected, maintained, and challenged.

This pageantry gave a chance for a young woman like Adline to unleash her talents and expose her beauty. But what one realizes beyond that is her warm and straight forward attitude towards life – beautiful, inspiring and infectious. Having a superb physique and flawless skin, a brief conversation with her revealed that she is a strong young lady with engaging thoughts, and her attitude, her confidence, made it clear, that she is extraordinary- and she has a very good chance of winning many more Titles. And surely one day she will make her parents, relatives, well-wishers and friends more proud, when she gets ‘Super & Bigger’ Title!

On behalf of ‘Madhuvan Village’ -the hospitality partner in Mangaluru, Keshav, the Restaurant Manager presented a flower bouquet to Adline on behalf of the management, and a group photo was taken with the owner of the Restaurant, Jossie D’souza and bevy of staff. RJ Ajay and RJ Anushri from 98.3 Radio Mirchi also had a fun and jovial interview, which was very much cherished by Miss Adline.

Following are the excerpts from the exclusive interview with Miss Adline Castelino :

In order to be prepared for the pageant I need experience in modelling . When I was in college an agency reached out to me and I followed back with them

Was very fortunate to share the journey with such accomplished women. I’ve been researching about the platform and wanted to take advantage of the resources to spread the cause of farmers

Q: Winning in this pageant, do you have any ideas for a change in your career for the future?

I see this as in tune with my career. This is what I want to do and where I want to be.

Q: These days we see a lot of communal disharmony in our country- Does religion unite or divide people?”

“Religion definitely unites people. It has values that bring people together. People believing in the same things come together and stay in harmony. When I first came here from Kuwait, I really loved the fact that in India, all religions stay together in harmony. We celebrate Diwali, Christmas, Eid all together and what a beautiful scene that is! Here we can stay together, respect each others beliefs and be in harmony. We can progress with each other and move forward to the future.”

Q : What do you have to say about the political situation that we are in right now?

But at the same time, if you see there are a lot of people coming in support. That’s the whole true colour of India, that a lot of people from different religions are coming together to support that one religion and that is the beauty of our country. Where can you get this?

Q: If you get a chance would you accept the gauntlet of becoming an actress in Bollywood?.

I’ve never thought until now. Since I’m a business graduate, I was very passionate and still very passionate about business and speaking to a lot of people connecting with a lot of people. Acting is something where you can connect to a lot of people, you can see a lot of stories. So that is an aspect of what I would consider.

Q: What is that you would like to share with Mangalorean.com readers?

To the readers, I would like to say “Things in life can be difficult but not impossible to achieve. Take pride where you come from, what you are, and most of all believe in yourself. Think big, and try to make your dreams come true.
