Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar reviews development projects, schemes in Manipur

Imphal: Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) Sukanta Majumdar reviewed key developmental initiatives and ongoing projects in Manipur, with particular emphasis on strengthening inter-governmental coordination for their timely implementation.

The Union Minister undertook a two-day visit to Manipur on Thursday and Friday, during which he reviewed the progress of key developmental projects and schemes.

The visiting Central Minister called on state Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, visited a flagship infrastructure project site, and interacted with beneficiaries of MDoNER schemes.

During his meetings with the Governor and the Chief Minister, discussions centred on key developmental initiatives and ongoing projects in Manipur, with particular emphasis on strengthening inter-governmental coordination for their timely implementation, along with other developmental and administrative matters concerning the state and the Northeast region.

Minister Majumdar, who also holds the MoS Education portfolio, chaired a review meeting with state Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur and Administrative Secretaries of various line departments at the Main Conference Hall in the Civil Secretariat at Mantripukhri in Imphal.

The meeting took stock of the status of various projects being implemented in Manipur under the MDoNER Ministry and the North Eastern Council (NEC), besides investment initiatives in the state.

The visiting Minister called for closer coordination between the state government and the Ministry to ensure speedy and effective execution of ongoing schemes and projects for the benefit of the people of Manipur.

On Thursday, the Minister proceeded to Andro in Imphal East district, where he attended the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan programme, “Aashirwad Ka Diya” (Lamp of Blessings), and interacted with villagers, local representatives and beneficiaries of MDoNER Ministry schemes in the area.

On Friday, Majumdar, accompanied by Dharmvir Jha, Statistical Adviser of the MDoNER Ministry, and Dr R. K. Radhesana Devi, Director, Planning Department, visited the PM-DevINE project site at Mantripukhri to review the development of infrastructure for the Processing Zone of the Manipur Information Technology Special Economic Zone (IT SEZ). The project is envisioned as a key enabler of IT growth, entrepreneurship, investment and employment opportunities for the youth of Manipur.

The Minister’s visit was attended by senior officers of the state government, including officials of the Planning Department.
