Uppinangady: Clash Involving Machete and Beer Bottle; Two Detained, One Absconding

Mangaluru: A clash between two groups involving a machete and a beer bottle broke out outside Karthik Bar in Uppinangady on the night of October 18.

In connection with the incident, police have detained Manjunath, a resident of Ilanthila, and Vishwanath, a resident of Karavalu. Another accused, Munna, also a resident of Karavalu, reportedly fled the scene.

The group, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, created a disturbance in a public place outside the bar, causing panic among the public. During the altercation, Manjunath was allegedly wielding a machete, while Munna was carrying a beer bottle.

After receiving information about the incident, Uppinangady police rushed to the spot and acted immediately. They detained Manjunath and seized the machete in his possession. However, Munna reportedly managed to escape upon seeing the police.

Uppinangady Police Station registered a case under Crime No. 135/2026 under Sections 194, 296 and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 25(1)(B) of the Arms Act, 1959.

During the investigation, it reportedly emerged that the altercation began after Munna, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, verbally abused members of Manjunath’s family, leading to a heated exchange and a subsequent clash.

The accused will be produced before the court following the completion of the investigation, police said.
