Website Impact! Area in front of BJP Election Campaign Office near Bunts Hostel on Kadri Road Looks Crisp Clean

Mangaluru: Talk about the power of media, especially Electronic media where we highlight the civic issues and within few hours or few days the concerned authorities who can’t bear the criticism about heir negligence, quickly get into action and rectify the civic issues. In the past Mangalorean.com has highlighted various civic issues through our website, and there has been a tremendous effect with most of the problems being fixed in no time, from rectifying dilapidated roads, open drainage, non-friendly footpaths, dog menace etc etc.

Here is yet another story of website publicity which has brought positive results, so quickly within a few hours when the issue was highlighted in our portal. No doubt, that the media plays a key role in shaping the growth of the City. We had highlighted about the pile of garbage in front of BJP Election Campaign office near Bunts Hostel on Kadri Road, through a report ” http://www.mangalorean.com/swachatha-abused-pile-of-garbage-lying-right-in-front-of-bjp-election-campaign-office/ , which was published on Sunday, 24 March in Mangalorean.com at around 12 noon, and quite a few of our readers had forwarded this report to the officials concerned people, either through Whatsapp, Twitter, email and SMS, and by same Sunday evening the area was completely cleaned, by a few volunteers.

Yours truly of Team Mangalorean while passing by on Sunday evening noticing a few people cleaning the garbage-laden area, stopped by and complimented the persons for doing a good job towards Swachh Mangaluru. One of the person speaking to yours truly in Kannada said, “Yaro obaa pattinga reporter edara visheya publish madidakke namage ega e kelasa” (Some idiot reporter had published about this issue, and now we get this work to clean the garbage). Wow- this person didn’t even know that the “Pattinga” reporter that he was talking was the one who had highlighted it on the website. I kept quiet and praised him for his good job of cleaning, and accepted his “Pattinga” remarks coolly!

Team Mangalorean is happy that the area is clean now, no matter what the man has to say about the reporter. Journos do face criticism, that’s our routine life. It’s our job to highlight civic issues which could be rectified by the concerned people. Even though Swacch Bharat Abhiyan was launched on 2nd October 2014, an initiative by PM Narendra Modi to keep the street of the cities hence the country clean, but there is still much more to be done to make PM Modi’s dream come true on the 150th Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2 Oct 2019. The idea is about to encourage the citizens of the nation to participate in the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan which is quite good. But by the way, the things are going on, Swachhata is yet to reach to its highest level, even though a bunch of organizations, institutions are trying their best for the cleanliness of India.

This Swachh Bharath Abhiyan had taken a lot of time and effort of many important persons in India. It has caused an expenditure. This would not have happened if India was maintained as clean as they do in the western countries or Singapore or Japan. So much of media time had to be used. The campaign is a voluntary one. It is not compulsory. So everyone need not understand and implement the recommendations of the campaign. It may time to materialize fully, but citizens should use their civic/common sense when it comes to cleanliness.

The Abhiyan has no way of punishing those bodies who are throwing waste and polluting natural resources. It only believes in the change of mentality of the people in future. It is very uncomfortable to do those activities directly, as they are not done automatically. Seems like more and more awareness programmes are needed in Mangaluru in order to keep our City clean and green. Thanks to whoever the persons were, responsible for cleaning the waste in front of BJP Election Campaign office.
