Pure sequences

You can make a sequence of low point cards or high point cards or face cards. A pure sequence is a group of three or more cards of the same suit, placed in consecutive order. You can not form a pure sequence with a wildcard or a joker card. To declare the game, you need to have at least 1 pure sequence in your rummy hand.

For example, 5H, 6H, 7H is a pure sequence. It qualifies to be a sequence since the cards belong to the same set and are placed in consecutive order. Also, we have not used any wildcard or joker card to complete this sequence.

Impure sequence

An impure sequence in the game of rummy is a group of 3 or more cards of the same suit with one or more wildcard or joker card. A valid declaration can contain impure sequences, but one pure sequence is compulsory.

Example of an impure sequence: 4H, 5H, PJ, 7H. In this sequence, the 6 of hearts is missing and it is replaced by a Printed Joker.

Types of Sequences in Rummy

There are many different types of rummy card sequences that you can form. These card sequences will make or break your game, and therefore, you have to be careful.

Sequence of low point cards

A sequence of low point cards means an arrangement of cards from 2 to 5. If you have 2, 3, 4 or 3, 4, 5, you can call it a sequence of low point cards. Make sure that these cards belong to the same suit. For example, the 2, 3, 4 of hearts is a valid sequence of low point cards.

Sequence of high point cards

A sequence of cards, which consists of cards from 6 to 10 and the face cards, is known as the sequence of high point cards. For example, 6, 7, 8 of diamonds or 9, 10, J of hearts, etc.

Sequence of face cards

A sequence of face cards includes King, Queen, and Jack. When you make a sequence of picture cards, the cards are scored as 11, 12, and 13 for J, Q, and K respectively.
