Why Pay Big Bucks at Private Gyms, When Open Gym at Kadri Park is Totally FREE?
Mangaluru: With many Gyms and Fitness centres mushrooming in the City, and people who are conscious about their health and fitness spend big bucks at these private Gyms- but now, there is good news for such people who can avail the same kind of facilities/fitness equipment absolutely FREE, at the newly launched “OPEN GYM”, children’s play equipment and several other development works inaugurated on Friday, 1 March 2019 by Member of Parliament (MP) Nalin Kumar Kateel, along with MCC Mayor Bhasker K, MLA Vedavyas Kamath, and MCC Corporators.
This entire project was done under the Amruth Scheme/Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation of the central government, state government and MCC at a cost of Rs 1.16 crore. Henceforth, the morning and evening walkers at the Kadri Park can avail these extra facilities at NO COST, where their mind and their body can get exercise in an environment filled with greenery. The aim of the gym is to provide an exercise facility to all those who make use of the Park, either for walking, exercise or spend some leisure time in the natural green park.
In his inaugural address, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “This unique Open Gym along with play equipment for children was a long pending project, which finally got materialized today. Since the earlier game equipment was out-dated and dilapidated, it was necessary to launch this new facility, which will surely benefit the adults and kids. Citizens should not abuse these pieces of equipment since they are expensive, and make use of them like their own. We will appoint a maintenance man to take care of this Gym and children equipment”.
The Open Gym comprises of 22 exercise equipment like the ‘Arm & Shoulder Wheel’, ‘Stairs Stepper’, ‘Standing Twister Tripple’, ‘Chest Press & Lat Pull’, ‘Rowing Station’, ‘Cycle’ from Vinex, and many more. The location of the Gym is very adjacent to the children’s play area, and the Gym facility is exclusively for adults. Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Pro-Cyclist Donny Menezes said, “Me and my wife every evening take a long walk from our residence in Mary Hill to Kadri Park, as part of our daily exercise. Mornings I do cycling, but with this new Open Gym launched at Kadri Park, I will have added benefit to exercise more using this gym equipment. Indeed a very good initiative by MCC to come up with this project, which will be surely appreciated by the walkers and joggers”.
Yet another evening walker, Ramesh Pai said “A very good initiative taken by MCC, but it would be a good idea to appoint someone to undertake the maintenance, if not the equipment will be abused in no time, just like all other projects launched by MCC. Just look at the fate of Musical Water Fountain right across from here. When a good amount of money is spent on such projects, taking care of the projects implemented is also very important”. The children’s playground has also been upgraded, and there is an exclusive play area for special children, all costing around Rs 16 lakhs. While the open gym and shelter cost around Rs 30.56 lakh.
Apart from the Gym and Children’s play area, a large stretch of the park has been interlocked at a cost of Rs 34.5 lakh, and also a mud track has been laid along the side of it at a cost of Rs 34.19 lakhs, which also included cost of planting new flowering plants and also railings around the pond. The entire developmental work has cost nearly Rs 1.16 crore.
