Mangaluru: After assuming the post of Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada on 1 February 2023, Dr VIKRAM AMATHE had his maiden interaction with journos on Saturday, 4 February 2023 at the SP headquarters conference hall. Prior to getting further into details of his plans and initiatives, Dr Vikram introducing himself said, “Hailing from Belagavi, I am a 2012 batch IPS officer, having served in Bellary and Mysuru as DCP admin crime and traffic. Served in Chamarajanagar as additional SP during the election, and also in Dakshina Kannada during the MP election, Shivmogga and Belagavi (Belgaum). Prior to taking up a police post I served as a veterinary doctor for four years and SBI technical officer for two years earlier. Prior to my assignment as SP of Dakshina Kannada, I worked as the Superintendent of Police State Intelligence. I am overwhelmed to be back in Mangaluru to be serving as SP of DK since I have been here earlier and I loved this place and the people of DK”

Dr Vikram further said, “I will always remain friendly, but at the same time I expect peace and harmony to be maintained by the people of DK. I know DK is a sensitive district, but if we all work in unity, there will be peace and harmony, no doubt at all. My priority is to maintain strict law and order, especially during the forthcoming elections. We keep an eye on troublemakers, hate and mischief mongers and bad elements, including rowdy sheeters, and others. Troublemakers will be strictly dealt with, and we will use our method to prevent them from committing crimes or nuisance again. Zero tolerance towards organized crime will be maintained, which affects law and order, and priority will be given towards community policing”.

To a query from a reporter about the recklessness and behaviour of private buses, SP Vikram said, “Bus drivers and conductors will be given awareness training and warned about their behaviour and character. Strict action will be taken on motorists breaking traffic rules, like speeding, moving around with no vehicle insurance, two-wheeler riders riding around with no helmets, triple riding, going the wrong way etc. There have been way too many two-wheeler accidents, where many have lost lives. Awareness programmes will be launched constantly. We are also planning to start counselling on traffic for those who violate traffic rules and habitual offenders. A social media monitoring cell will be set up in two subdivisions, Puttur and Bantwal in the coming days to verify and find reasons behind certain rumour mongers’ social media posts before booking them as per provision”.

Before concluding, Dr Vikram Aamthe said, “Now that the elections are fast approaching, we will strictly maintain law and order, and will look out for those who give hate speeches, resulting in disharmony and communal unrest. FIR will be filed against those who deliver hate speeches. We will try to reactivate the beat systems in rural areas as senior citizens live in many isolated places since more crimes are taking place in such areas. Beat systems and patrolling will be initiated in those particular places. Also that Dakshina Kannada is closer to the border with Kerala, where lots of illegal activities are taking place, including drug trafficking, ganja peddling etc, more check posts will be added. “.

Ms Gana P Kumar, the DySp of the District Crime Record Bureau (DCRB) was also present during the interaction session.
