To Seniors With Love! Age-Mangaluru Treats Old-Timers to Free “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Kung Fu Panda 3” Shows.

Mangaluru: Even though getting old makes one sad and depressed, but also getting old brings lots of goodies for them in the form of senior discounts at various places like hotels, hospitals, department stores; other senior benefits, including free offers to movies- and here in Mangaluru, Action Group for Elderly (AGE) with love for seniors offered the screening of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” for free, together with popcorn and Fanta drink, at Cinepolis inside City Centre Mall. Nearly 200 seniors from various old-age homes, including members of Age-Mangaluru enjoyed the movie exclusively shown to them at 10 am.

Although this movie was not a appropriate one for the seniors, but it seemed like these old-timers enjoyed it, and brought out the kid in them- it brought back sweet memories of their kid days. For many watching a movie with 3D glasses was a first experience, and they loved it. Some were seen wearing the 3D glasses over their regular eye-glasses? Speaking to Mangalorean.com, 78 year-old Josephine said, ” It was very scary- Batman and Superman were coming right into my eyes. I was so scared that I closed my eyes throughout the show”. 80 year-old Mahaveer said, ” Tulu or Kannada film would have been nice, but I enjoyed this movie, although the scenes were not so colorful but black. I loved watching it through these 3D glasses”.

The funny part was that during the interval time, nearly 95% of the seniors didn’t much liked the “Batman v Superman” saying that it was to horrific and had too many fights. With much consideration and to make these elderly folks happy, Age-Mangaluru convincing the Cinepolis management were able to transfer all these old-timers to a different theatre where they treated to a ” Kung Fu Panda 3″- a 2016 3D American-Chinese computer-animated action comedy martial arts film, produced by Dream-Works Animation. 68 year-old Severine speaking to Mangalorean.com said, “I felt like a grand-kid, and not like a Grandma watching this cartoon movie.

Wish I had few grand-kids along with me to watch this film. It was really fun seeing this movie in 3D glasses, which was my first experience”. 72 year-old Laxmiamma all giggling and happy said, ” I feel very childish watching this cartoon movie. The movie made me laugh throughout and I am a happy person now. Next time they should show us Hindi, Kannada or Tulu fun movies. Thanks to Age-M’luru for their kind gesture, care and love towards us”.

About ‘Batman v Superman : Dawn of the Justice” – It’s been nearly two years since Superman’s (Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel. Regarding the movie “Kung Fu Panda 3”-Living large and loving life, Po (Jack Black) realizes that he has a lot to learn if he’s going to fulfill the next challenge from his beloved instructor (Dustin Hoffman). After reuniting with his long-lost father (Bryan Cranston), Po must transition from student to teacher and train a group of fun-loving, clumsy pandas to become martial-arts fighters. Together, the kung-fu brethren unite to take on the evil Kai (J.K. Simmons), a supernatural warrior who becomes stronger with each battle.

Speaking to Mangalorea.com, Shameem Kunil, President of Age Mangalore (Action Group for Elderly) said, ” The Age-Mangaluru NGO was established in the year 1997 with the main object of working towards the benefits of Senior Citizens specially those who are not well placed in the Society. Mainly to affiliate, amalgamate, reconstruct, co-operation and bring together the various Societies, institutions, which are working on concerns of the elderly and to promote co-operation and co-ordination amongst them. To mobilize elderly citizens towards social causes as para professionals. To organize conferences, exhibitions, demonstrations and lectures to further the cause of welfare of the elderly without cast and creed.

Also speaking, Secretary of Age- Zahid Hussaian Baji said, “We arrange every month some lecture programmes to our members to educate them in medical, legal, social and health etc. by calling eminent speakers. We have annual function “World Elders Day” when we invite inmates of several old age homes and bring them at our cost to the venue of the function and entertain them thus bringing some cheer to their otherwise monotonous living. We celebrate National functions such as Independence Day and Republic Day. And have annual picnic to our members. Periodically we visit Old age homes with some gifts to the inmates of the ashrams in Mangaluru and out skirts of the City”.

While concluding, I personally feel, Age-Mangaluru is doing extraordinary work. I appeal to all the ‘younger’ people to support this NGO which is doing yeomen task towards the elderly, and realize the ‘worth’ of these Elders, Our Elders, and see that their ‘Energy’ is used properly. They have lots to ‘give’ and its every body’s ‘duty’ to utilize this mature, experienced and Wise Energy. Like Dr. Prabha Adhikari of KMC and Founder of NGO-Nava Chaitanya had once said,”My Father Got the respect he deserved” , YES, our Elders deserve the ‘RESPECT’ that they have ‘EARNED’. Let us be a little more sensitive and be a little more polite and respectful, They ‘Don’t Ask Much’, give them their ‘Senior Citizens Seats” in buses , give preference in Queues and simple small acts like these will suffice-..”OLD is indeed GOLD”. Show them that you care and love them, entertain them when you can, and make them happy. You’ll be truly blessed.

I end this column with few thought-provoking words of wisdom on “old age’-

“The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young. The complete life, the perfect pattern, includes old age as well as youth and maturity. The beauty of the morning and the radiance of noon are good, but it would be a very silly person who drew the curtains and turned on the light in order to shut out the tranquility of the evening. Old age has its pleasures, which, though different, are not less than the pleasures of youth. The old are in a second childhood. When we’re young we have faith in what is seen, but when we’re old we know that what is seen is traced in air and built on water. No one wishes to grow old, to outlive their illusions. Only a short respite from cares and sorrow, a brief time of flowers, and music, and love, and laughter, and ecstatic tears”.
